Sparks-in-Shade sits looking out across Daring Heights. He shifts in his chair, wincing in discomfort. He shoulder hasn't been the same since he dislocated it fighting at the summit of Hollow Spine alongside Derthaad, Kelne, Tayz, and Heret. He pauses a moment in thought, then picks up his battered old lute, checks the tuning, and strums a chord. His voice rises, mimicking the sound of three singers in intertwining harmonies. This is how he will remember the mountain. A call for help The Watchman comes A promise made The mountain hums
Companions join A swift tactician Black feathers twice And triple vision
The road is safe But ends and soon Replaced by cliffs The mountain looms
The test begins Our heroes rise To claim the climb The wind denies
Muscles straining Wills of steel The Watchman holds The mountain yields
The summit reached But without rest The mountain Sends another test
With laughing maws And dripping jaws The beasts arise For Hell's own laws
The Watchman stands And dreams of sleep But will not break The Promise Keep'd
The ground runs red With blood and still Our heroes sense Their breaking wills
A Scholar saves They rest their arms A promise kept The mountain calms
For now we pause But trust in time You'll hear of the Battle Of Hollow Spine

LOL your comparison is way cooler, but I would feel bad if i didn't confess that I stole the meter from a picture book that my 4 year-old really likes

Well, the song is originally from the Hobbit book, so the authors of your 4-year-old’s nursery book might have borrowed the meter from the same place lol!
