[DTAs 11,18,25/04 + 03/05/22] A Moment of Reflection
Glancing at himself at the mirror, Amble sees the eyes of a rather tired-looking forest gnome. He walks over to the desk in his room, sits down slightly harder than intended, and then leans back in his chair, reflecting on a very busy past month - even the time spent between adventures (when there was any!)...
All that nautical business at the start of the month - helping Sterling to get rid of his first coin ran across two weeks, with no rest in between, and the wrath of an ocean goddess hanging over their heads throughout!
That was followed by a very glum, weary, slump-shouldered trek back to Daring Heights from Port Ffirst - fearing the worst for his lost friends and fellow adventurers, disappeared into the light at Umberlee's watery altar. Fortunately, an anxious week ended well with Lolli and the others reappearing safely in their beds, no worse for wear, if a little confused as it seemed that no time had passed at all for them. For Amble, it felt like twice as many days had dragged on. Relief and excitement washed over him - being able to catch up with his friends again, and he was soon able to cheer himself up by copying a spell to allow him to Fly as well as the Mage Armour scroll that he picked up the a few weeks earlier - a bit of spell scribing always helps to re-energise the mind!
After a very unsettling adventure, supporting Selûne's disciples to fend off some fiends, he had been able to use those contacts to help him to learn more about the fungal spores. They helped to connect Amble with a healer who had come across an infected adventurer previously. This augmented a very hard, but rewarding spell of research at Daring Academy - finding out more about the Spores [to be covered in a separate write-up]. Although successful, it had also strained his nerves, leaving him on edge. Even thinking about the spores now made him shudder.
Last week had been a little better, with some relaxing academic work in the Academy, using his knowledge of History to sort out one of the dustier corners of the library that he had spotted was in since disarray when carrying out his research. It went rather well, earning him 25 GP, mutual magely respect, and funding a comfortable lifestyle during the week. Better still, he bumped into Lolli and Glint, swapping spells again. As well as sharing his spell book with Lolli, to learn Mage Armour, he was also able to copy two Enchantment spells from Glint: one to put enemies to Sleep, and Tasha's Mind Whip to be able to exert some control over anyone or anything who might try to do his friends harm in future. Considerably more relaxing, but physically quite tiring - riding an energetic Stiffy all the way to Port Ffirst to help to sort out a problem in their sewers...
Perhaps next week will bring a little more calm?
