As one steps off the main thoroughfare of Castle Road, passing under a building that doubles both as archway and the beginning of Evenbloom Street, you pass buildings both bright and colourful, like a field of blossoming flowers — something like the namesake for which this particular portion of Daring Heights is named after. The sun glints off windows of all manner of businesses — boutiques, bakeries, salons, cafés. But none shine so brightly as around the corner and down the street is a circular, lilac coloured building appearing smaller than the rest, with a faded gold plaque over the door that denotes it to be the fiore popolare. What appears to be a place barely able to fit ten tables within its circular walls is actually a lot bigger than the exterior lets one believe. In the centre of the cocktail bar is a huge pillar covered in all sorts of seasonal flowers and vines that extend overhead on what appear to be support beams that draw the eyes upwards towards the roof, where there is one gigantic, crystal clear pane of glass. Thirteen small windows dotted at irregular intervals up the walls at various, mismatched places, their glasses all different colours, makes the light cast into the fiore popolare atmospheric and, quite frankly, otherworldly. But all of that is nothing compared to the woman who runs the stylish and fantastical cocktail bar. “Where did I study? Here, there, and everywhere!” the young mixologist tells this socialite writer. “I’ve gone to the Witching Court — but that was mostly to study the Craft and perfect my potion making. Before that I was in Aqa on the Plane of Air studying weather working. Before that, Sigil where I apprenticed at all sorts of bars. Did you know they have the widest range of exquisite and exotic liqueurs and concoctions than any other Plane?” Miss Autumn has brought many such bottles from the City of Doors and they line the walls of the wonderful interior, in alcoves and on shelves, hidden behind vines that tickle down from overhead. It’s hard to tell how many are in this place — from clear glass to transparent blue, to opaque black, thin and tall to short and stout, covered in labels in all types of languages. So what is next for Daring’s young mixologist? “I am always on the lookout for new seasonal cocktails. Perhaps I’ll reach out to the adventuring community to help me concoct the most infamous of all vernal spices! Hmm…”

The small lilac building that once stood on the winding Evenbloom street is gone, burned away by horrible dragonfire four months ago. For a time, the beautiful mixologist Leona Autumn had been MIA! But a month or so ago, some helpful adventurers went on a quest to find Daring Height's trendy mixologist and she has since been busy brewing up a storm! Though there appears to still be plenty of work that needs to be done for Daring's favourite trendy cocktail club, Miss Autumn is not resting on her laurels! Today marks the first of a week long special event happening in the Courtyard – the cozy and cute area just behind the spot where construction still goes on. Miss Autumn, sporting a trendy new, and quite frankly wicked look, encourages any and all patrons to sample this special event's seasonal menu! “Let our spirits rise from the ashes of the old into something new!” Getting to sample the delicious and spook-tacular drinks of a professional mixologist and support a small business recover from disaster? Sign me up!

Many things can change over the course of a year. Our little slice of the Prime Material saw itself invaded by githyanki, those dreadful astral pirates with a penchant for riding on the backs of red dragons. The devastation they wrought upon us, and our neighbours, can still be seen in the scars of the Dawnlands — for the farmers, the scare of whether there would be any crop left to harvest come autumn, let alone enough to feed the animals; for merchants, the worry of whether business will return to these strange lands that were once seen as a place of opportunity, now just a powderkeg counting down until the next “Happening”. But it is the scars the people of the Dawnlands carry, be they visible or not, that can weigh the heaviest. The small lilac building with its brass sign denoting the trendiest cocktail bar this side of the Great Sea is no more. Just as many homes on the north side of Daring were swept away by dreadful dragon fire, the fiore popolare did not survive the devastation. Miss Autumn herself has been heard to have said, “I was lucky to survive. If it had not been for my mother, I would not be here.” However, as with any devastating forest fire, life finds a way to grow anew, sometimes even stronger and greener than before! Miss Autumn has been busy since her return to Castleside. Not only continuing to break the mould with her cocktails worthy of writing home to your grandparents about, but (most importantly) rebuilding and rebranding the fiore popolare into something extraordinary! Those of us who were fortunate enough to pass under the faded gold plaque of its predecessor will find some tricks have not changed. The beautiful, blue greenhouse/conservatory-like building still boasts the ‘it’s bigger on the inside’ that we know and love of the old fiore popolare. But that’s not all, dear reader. I do not wish to spoil it too much — Miss Autumn has outdone herself with her care for detail and design — but the term ‘easter eggs’ will be meaningful for those of you in the know. What I can say is this: Upon crossing the threshold you are greeted with what is both the signature fiore style, but with a delightful and capriciously whimsical new twist. A little wooden bridge over a sparkling koi pond, followed by a waterfall. Then, greenery everywhere: bells of the green isles, calla lilies, carnations and chrysanthemums, orchids, ivy, holly, hydrangea, ferns, and so many more. Not everything is new though! The single crystal clear pane of glass that once presided overhead has been repurposed. Miss Autumn painstakingly found all the pieces, fitted together, and create the perfect copper and glass blossom that looks over the patrons. Of course, I would be remiss to not mention the other gorgeous glasswork Miss Autumn got done! When asked how she could afford such exquisite art pieces — this writer’s personal favourite is the merchant vessel crossing some tumultuous sea as the sun rises — she had this to say: “This place is not only my business, it is my home, the only one I have been able to make truly and completely my own. It will be filled with the art of my Craft, with the memories of these lands, and the beauty they hold.” When asked which of the pieces Miss Autumn liked the most, she said, “The Willowmaid…” Miss Leona Autumn, owner of the fiore popolare, now reopened for business!
