CSI: Slime Scene Investigation
... Uncovering the truth just in the nick of slime

I am back to the library again.
You know, I am not the biggest fan of libraries but this one is great! The large arches, the colourful designed, the many, many rooms to be explored. It’s amazing.
I arrive there with Kelne. We see the note on the door which reads:
I find this note curious but I'm not sure what to make of it. Once Kelne is done reading the note we proceed inside. We head over to the book at the back and I start reading some of the titles. As I’m doing that Derthaad arrives and suddenly starts giving out to me about stealing books. I mean like hello to you too! I say to him I do no such things. Then I start to think to myself that I mean maybe I did want to steal a book, but I don't like anyone telling me what to do. Maybe I will steal one in spite now and place it on him. See how he would like that. Ha!
I start chatting with Kelne. I haven’t talked to my Halfling friend in so long. I quickly learn that they can’t see very well. Something happened to them recently and it’s impacted their vision. I immediately summon Barry, my unseen servant, and command him to look out for Kelne and guide them around the place so they don’t bump into things. Kelne looks pleased with this and thanks me, I grin back.
I start to hear new voices approaching. I look around and I see Kavel looking like his usual self. And his is followed by a human I hadn’t met before. This person immediately goes over to Derthaad and greets him. I learn that this person’s name is Grimes. Grimes then proceeds to congratulate Derthaad on his new promotion on becoming Sergeant. He knows it’s a tough job since he’s on the City Watch too. Time goes still for a moment for me. I want to scream. I try to compose myself. I smile and grin and pretend that everything is fine. But I can't stop thinking there’s two, TWO damn people from the City Watch today. Literally just perfect… I sigh and I stretch my muscles to get ready for the tough journey ahead.
After greetings stop, we all decide to work out where we’re going. I mention has anyone seen Chonk? I know he usually comes out to greet everyone. It’s strange he’s not here already. No one seems to have seen him. We do a quick search for Chonk and call out for him, but nothing seems to work. We decide to move on anyway. Kavel mentions that he wants to pop into the Armoury again. I couldn’t see anything wrong with that and neither could anyone else, so we all make our way there.
As we enter the Armoury, the suits come over to greet us. They seem to recognise myself, Kelne and of course Kavel. This is where Kavel got his weapon last time. Some of the suits of armour appear to be in the middle of an arm wrestling competition. They gesture to all of us to join in. Kavel immediately jumps into this without question. Kavel out out his hand to the competitor and the match begins. I start to cheer Kavel on loudly. However, as we're all watching Kavel appears to be struggling to move the hand. He is giving it everything but the arm doesn’t seem to budge at all. I know Kavel can smash through doors and destroy things pretty well, if he can’t move this arm then it must be ridiculously tough. Suddenly the arm seems to move Kavel’s and Kavel's hand starts to slowly go down until it hits the table. And the match is over and Kavel loses. Kavel doesn't look impressed and appears to be asking for a rematch when suddenly there’s announcement that rings through the room:
“All adventurers, please proceed to the Herald”
We all look around and decide its best we head off to the Herald then. Kavel mentions to the suits of armour that he’ll be back and we make our way. The Herald seems to be located on one of the towers located on the map.
As we arrive, I immediately spot Chonk. However, he doesn’t seem to be quite himself. He looks quite sad. And he appears to be standing next to a big blob of jelly. We learn that the big blob of jelly can actually talk and that her name is Cyanne. Myself and Kelne get fascinated by Cyanne. Kelne asks her if she can bounce on her. She says she doesn’t see a problem with that and Kelne immediately starts jumping and they get up really high. Their head nearly touches the ceiling at one point. Kelne mentions that I should join them as it’s really fun. I take no further prompting I leap onto Cyanne and start bouncing alongside Kelne. Kelne is correct it’s extremely fun bouncing. I start laughing along with Kelne. After a few minutes, we both decide to get off and stop our jumping.
We enquire to Cyanne about some things and we learn that Cyanne is the one who left the notice at the door. That she wanted help looking into the Laboratory. She mentions her brother is there and he gets up to strange experiment there. But she's too scared too go in. Grimes asks for a description and Cyanne mentions that he’s like her only bigger and has darker colours. I start to wonder if he’s bouncy like her, maybe I’ll try jumping on him as well. She also mentions his name is Joon. With this information, we thank her and head towards the laboratory.
As we enter the laboratory, we can see the room splits off in two directions. A bright green glow colour is coming from the left and a red glow colour from the right. I mean I didn’t need to think twice about which colour I was heading for. I love red, red is right in my mind. I quickly dash over there and silently communicate this to the others. Kavel starts to make his way to the Green side, along with Derthaad and Kelne. Grimes decides to join me. Of course, one of the City Watch men would tag along with me. I shake off my unwanted thoughts and decide to keep going. I can hear a dripping noise coming from somewhere close by but I can’t see the source yet. I keep my guard up, I head first before Grimes with each turn. I quickly dart around the first corner. Everything seems to be clear so far, I nod to Grimes. I move to the next corner and again it’s clear. More nods to Grimes. The dripping is getting louder. I know we must be close. I dart down what appears to be an empty corridor and as I reach the end a massive blobby like figure emerges from the centre of the room and looks like it’s going to attack. I can hear the dripping sound coming from this thing. I shout out aloud “Grimes, I think I found the brother”.
Suddenly, I get attacked. I move quickly and manage to avoid the blows. Kavel appears from a different direction and start attacking it. I wonder where he came from but I have no time for questions. Grimes suddenly appears to my right and he also starts attacking. Joon does not appear to be happy and retaliates. Out of nowhere there’s a mini-version of Chonk that appears next to Joon and he starts attacking Kavel. Slime gets thrown to all of us. I quickly dodge more of this. My reflexes are on point today. I decide to try a different approach to fighting Joon. I go to cast “Suggestion”. I tell Joon that we should stop fighting and try talk this out. We can stop the fighting here and have a nice civil chat. Joon starts to get angrier and shouts that we’re just like his mother. Trying to control him. He goes to attack everyone again. I decide then and then to go with Plan B. Stabbing him with my dancing rapier. I yell ‘Stabracadabra’ to my trusty blade and it up goes in the air hovering over Joon. I command it to attack him. We are all attacking and avoiding Joon’s blows but Joon is quite strong. It seems almost impossible to stop him. We are all covers in slime and goop. Derthaad comes out of the blue and casts “Wall of Force” on Joon. This seems to contain him and he is trap for now. I sigh with a small bit of relief. Grimes pulls me back from where I was standing, puts his hand on my shoulder and whispers some words. I instantly feel a lot better. I nod to thank Grimes.
Everyone starts to try and reason with Joon. Kelne eventually asks if he can help restore Chonk’s memories. We learn then that Joon has been eating them as that’s his way of getting food. Chonk has been visiting the library a lot so it was easy to get his. Joon mentions in order to give Chonk’s memories back he wants a new one in return. He wants to take a memory and it will be permanently removed from our memories. I start going through all the things I would be willing to give up. I don’t want to with any of them… my memories with my family, my memories with Ludwig, the silver vipers, the red house… Sammy. I can’t give up any of those memories. All of us seem to be lost in thought over what memories to give up when Kavel suddenly says that Joon can take his memory with his polearm. He has fond memories with it and even killed a beast from hell with it. But he will gladly give it up to get Chonk’s memories back. I am just shocked. I couldn’t imagine giving up any of my rapiers. They’re far too precious and yet Kavel just did there.
Joon agrees to this. He mentions that he first needs to be removed from the banishment thing so he can do it. Derthaad eyes him up suspiciously, but reluctantly releases the spell. Joon the looks at Kavel, reaches out with his pseudopods to Kavel’s head and starts leeching out the memories. The rest of us are all standing around, ready to attack Joon in an instant if Joon betrays us. However, when he’s done with Kavel he seems to be satisfied. A red crystal forms in Kavel’s hand. Joon mentions to give that to Chonk and he’ll remember everything that he’s forgotten up until now. Joon slinks to the back of the room and we all quickly leave the laboratory. I dart, I don’t want Joon taking my memories… not today anyway.
We all head back to the Herald to see Chonk and Cyanne again. Kavel goes over to Chonk and tell him he made him a cherry pie and that he should eat it. Chonk seem curious about the pie and eats it. With each chew, we can all hear the crunching of crystals. It sounds very unpleasant. Chonk isn’t sure if he likes this ‘pie’ but suddenly he starts to get flooded with memories. He looks to all of us and recognises us. However, he mentions he can’t remember seeing Grimes before. He starts to get confused again. Grimes chuckles and mentions that it’s because they hadn’t met before. Then Grimes goes to introduce himself to Chonk.
Kelne asks Chonk’s how they are now and Chonk replies saying they’re much better and that it was the best ‘Cherry Pie’ he’s ever had. Chonks gives Kelne a big hug and also grabs Kavel to hug him as well. Looks like Chonk’s is back to his usual self.
As we all start to pack up and leave, Cyanne hand us some loot that she found to me. I decide to hang on to everything. I mean I am the most trustworthy one of course. Just look at my face. I thank Cyanne and leave. As we make our way out, Kavel decides he wants to stop at the armoury on the way back. He wants to return the polearm he has as he has no use for it. The suits of armour seem to be pleased Kavel is back. And then out of nowhere, they start gesturing Kavel to read some book. I am not sure what it means, but maybe it’ll help Kavel remember his Polearm stuff? I will have to ask him about it later.
After that we all exit the library. I do a big smile and think to myself that was an interesting day all round. Now I need to go home and shower!
