My lovely Root,
I've decided to send you this letter instead of a Sending, as there are way too many things have happened to fit into 25 words. Don’t worry, though, they’re good things. Or so I hope...
Remember the tiefling gang I brought over for Mid-winter? They have moved on. None of them decided to become a botanist, unfortunately. But Rolrus moved to New Hillborrow to become a farm hand. One would think I should’ve known all along given how he loved playing with Bessie and Bark during his visit. Florian hopes to make a Druid out of him, but Rolrus strikes me as a person who is more likely to carry a bull over a stream than turn into one five years down the line. Reminds me of Toothy a bit. You know, the drow fellow? I believe he's also a friend of Lord Jaezred's.
Anyway, Rolrus seems very happy in New Hillborrow, the neighborhood is great, so there will be a lot of positive influence there.
Damcius decided to become a blacksmith. He works at Samed’s now, and I have no doubt that he’ll be doing well. At least the heat of the smithy won’t be a problem! Also, I have to acknowledge, he does know his metals. Even if it's less from an academic and more from a black market price perspective.
Cairos scared me a bit. He said he was going to become a thief! I’ve had a talk with him, and Derthaad’s investigative skills helped with the questioning. It turned out he meant rogue, which is somewhat more agreeable- at least he won’t be working for organised crime anymore. I've helped him set up at Fort Ettin and get an apprenticeship. Hopefully soon he'll be more than capable of protecting himself, and I won't have to worry at all.
They’ve never told me before, but apparently they’d lost another member of their team before we’ve met. They said he’s either dead or in the Plane of Fire. I asked a couple of old friends there if they’ve ever met a young tiefling named Fron and… well, a wrong turn in Sigil can get you killed, yes. That’s why Rolrus was so meek, Damcius so apathetic and Kairos so irresponsible. Just their ways of dealing with it. Poor boys. I wish we had more time together but realise I would’ve probably botched up helping them deal with it, so perhaps it is good we parted when we did.
Amraka gave us all quite a run for our money. Very literally. She decided to run off back to Sigil. I was terrified to hear it: they are still wanted there for all I know. I'm afraid she still has... if not a cruel streak, then at least an irresponsible one. Taking off on her own, tricking Rolrus into breaking into the Academy to leave him behind? That did not sound good at all. It took all of us to just persuade her to at least say goodbye to her friends. I understand, goodbyes are hard, but leaving your friends without a word is simply uncaring. I couldn’t refrain from Sending to her after she left. I was worried. Do you think I was too overbearing? She said she found a job. Not with the mafia, a normal job she is free to leave. It’s for someone influential in Sigil, so she’s not in any immediate danger. Thank gods for that.
But I am once again delayed from returning to you. I need to make sure my charges are settled in the Dawnlands. There are a couple of trips I am keen not to miss for job purposes. But please don’t take my absence as a sign of me getting cold feet. I assure you it can’t be further from the truth. I’ll be back with you in Port Ffirst as soon as I can.
Yours,
Glint.
