In the tavern you see Manaia sitting in a corner with her dog. You remember she was out all day yesterday, but she hasn't really told anyone what happened. She's writing in her notebook. Just as you want to approach her, she gets up and walks out. The dog is asleep. If you want to see what she's writing, this is your chance.
Once you look at the diary, you see short notes about her day written almost in telegram style. There's also a little drawing of a map:
April 24
Found a note from a witch living on the edge of the forest needing some help. Sounds like a good chance to get an idea of the surrounding plants. Want to check out her potions as well, who knows what she has. Decided to check it out. Several others were interested as well. Doubt they’ll be of any help but just want to have a look around and ask her about her knowledge of the plants and it’s better than going alone.
Agreed to meet up the following morning with 4 others (Dwarf, Half-Elf, Elf and Human). Don’t think Tai will make it very far, he’s getting pretty bad. Overheard the innkeep calling him the oldest dog in the world.
April 25
Met up with others. Asked the names of my companions again, had forgotten. Somewhat surprised the dwarf remembers her own name (Gunny), she looks older than Tai. Others are:
Witch lives 1 Mile to the South-East. Nice cottage. Would be a nice spot for Tai and me if she ever died.
Note to self: do not drink the old hags tea. I know a bad drink when I see one.
We agreed on 5 GP per chunk of gobbo paste and 3 GP per mushroom. She insisted we “kill the goblins”. I hoped we could do it simpler but the monk seemed pretty dead set on killing things. Should keep Tai away from him from now on.
She directed us to go North-East along the border of the forest until we reached a swamp. Would have preferred to go into the forest but exploring the border was a good start. Walked a few miles, forest on our right, grassland left. Saw a hillside filled with purple twilight flowers, can serve as a landmark.
Right after seeing the hill, the elf shot an arrow to seemingly nowhere. Turns out there was a half-ogre waiting for us. Sent Tai home, and confused the hell out of the ogre to make sure he wouldn’t pursue him. Leo managed to get himself badly hurt, good thing the elf finished him off quickly with her hand-axes. The dwarf then healed up Leocanto, mumbling something only having two uses of that spell… she never bothered to ask if anyone else had a similar spell prepared, so I kept my mouth shut.
Continued our way to the swamp, found two goblin apprentices gathering the gobbo mushrooms we needed. Fudo bolted in trying to kill them, but Elora beat him to it. She snuck up out of nowhere and slit the throat of one of them. She’s a killer, I should keep her around. The other one hid in the pond but Fudo literally punched him dead and that was that. Grabbed the two mushrooms they dropped as quick as I could, hoping no one else saw.
Either before or after this fight, we met another adventurer coming out of the swamp. Named something with a K. Mentioned spider-riding frog people deeper in the swamp. We decided not to push too far because that sounded dangerous. Not sure if this is worth investigating further. Woman should be in the city if I want more info.
Found the goblin teacher a little bit further, right after Leocanto managed to wander into quicksand, cape and all. Dwarf pulled him out, and at the same time the goblin teacher appeared. He was very unhappy. Not sure who finished him off, kinda stayed out of it. The goblin did turn into a crocodile at some point though, almost mauling Leocanto (that guy is bad luck). Crocodile might be a good go-to once I master my wildshape…
Turned around after that fight, day was almost over. Not much happened except the bard getting us briefly lost and Elora taking control and getting us back. Got back to the witch and got paid. Managed to make 6 GP and keep a tanglefoot bag. Tried to keep one of the mushrooms for myself but the dwarf remembered there being two.
The witch also mentioned having “potions to make you young”. Asked about application to animals. Told me to visit later!
April 26
Started day by agreeing with the barkeep to get some cellar space to brew in. Will come up with something good. Will take a couple weeks though. Might use those twilight flowers in the recipe. Heard rumour that they bloom at dusk (seen that myself) and are tied to the fey wild. Anyone seeking fey creatures might chance a look there first.
Found some good herbs outside the city walls in the meantime. Let’s find out if there’s any smokers around…
As you finish reading, you notice Manaia standing in front of you. She grabs the notebook, kicks you in the shin and yells "What are you doing?". She storms off...

- Fudo the human monk. Obsessed with death and dead creatures. Creepy
- Elora the elven ranger. Kept asking who had a dagger and stayed mostly out of sight. Comes off pretty shady.
- Leocanto, Half-elf bard. Lots of singing, not much contribution. Though I’m sure he will disagree.
