[DTA 04/04/22] Arcane Ambling in the Academy
#SunkenGardens #Spores ...? (TBC!)
After another (mostly) successful adventure threading the Gith*, Amble feels emboldened to seek out new experiences and that Port First would be worth a visit - nothing like some fresh(?!) sea air to invigorate the body and raise the spirits (or so he has read)!
First though, he will make the most of his time here in Daring Heights, near the Academy. He alternates his time between learning spells with Derthaad, and a light spot of academic Work in the library.
Derthaad kindly teaches him how to Comprehend Languages of all kinds, in return for Amble's signature spell, Featherfall. Amble immediately puts his new spell to good use, in order to scribe the Identify spell into his book from Derthaad's - which is written in Draconic. A few test castings indicate that all is well.
Both these spells come in handy, along with Amble's other known languages and voracious appetite for books, when it comes down to the spot of work that DA has gratefully accepted his help with. All together, these allow him to complete a very successful bit of Academic Work [light DTA], using his knowledge of History to help them to curate their library and to summarise and properly index some old tomes. Amble does an amazing job, the Head Liberation is delighted, and insist that they cover Amble's comfy lifestyle, putting him up in the Fair Winds, as well as hanging him 25gp in cash at the end of his time there.
What is more, coincidentally, during his work at DA, Amble learned a few things that he notes with interest. Although hadn’t had a particular reason to look for it, he came across a couple of fancy pictures in an old tome about planes and demiplanes that described the Sunken Gardens, which caught his attention. It seems that these are suspected to be: either a Demi-plane in its own right or a part of the Blood Sea rules by Umberlee. Rumoured to be as beautiful as it is deadly, mostly because nobody has ever returned from it, so its existence is hypothetical.
Things are going well for Amble: even being taken for two walks a day by Stiffy, his new mastiff mount, has been quite pleasant. His bed at the Fair Winds, and Stiffy's stables, each seem to be suiting them rather well.
But what's that tickle in the back of his throat? It seems to be entirely unrelated to his continued nagging thirst (and frequent loo trips**).
It's probably nothing ...
