Wren is outside in the front yard of Fort Ettin, the dusty pink stone walls a nice backdrop to them practising the crime team’s recall, when a very unexpected visitor walks through the doorless entrance. Out of everyone who comes into the fort, a graceful human woman with long brown hair and freckles in a well made but practical light blue dress wouldn’t stand out to most. For Wren this person almost causes them to drop their treats on Stripes’ head in surprise, and the crime team fully turns their attention to whatever has rooted them to the spot.
Eventually after taking in the sight of the fort, the human woman turns to notice Wren and an entire menagerie of animals staring them down. A deep frown of annoyance forms on her face before she realises exactly who is very rudely staring at her.
“Wren?”
The aasimar in cargo pants greets her with a very dignified response of “Uhhhh.”
“Wren is that you and your ‘dogs’? They’re so cute!” Now she’s striding across the grass towards them with a massive grin on her face that only gets bigger as she gets closer. “Now give your sister a proper greeting, you angsty numbskull.” There’s a moment as the crime team considers whether to intervene, but Wren waves them down just in time to be swept up in a massive hug that lifts them off the ground.
“Lily, you know I can’t breathe when you do hugs like these.” Lily doesn’t relent, Wren’s legs still dangling in the air. Wren sighs and in a faux polite voice says “Hi Lily, it is so great to see you.” They’re instantly returned to the ground and standing on their own two feet, Lily lets out a chuckle as Wren rolls their eyes.
“Although seriously, it is great to see you. I can’t believe it’s been like what? Two years? I’ve missed you sis.” Wren goes in for another hug, though there’s no chance they can lift their considerably taller sister off the ground. Stepping back they frown as they look up “But why are you here, on your own and all, and not at home? I was hoping you could tell me…”
Lily interrupts, grinning gone at the mention of home. “Why Mum won’t permit either of us near Silverymoon? Yeah something is up, and your letter was the final straw in me deciding we need to figure out what’s going on.”
She sighs before putting her hands on Wren’s shoulders to spin them in the direction of the main hall. “We’ve got a lot to talk about and discuss. And I didn’t travel alone, Lexi is with me of course! And you owe us both drinks, we spent ages looking for you in Port Ffirst and you weren’t even there.”
It’s at this point that another human woman comes frantically running into the yard of the fort, blond hair threatening to come loose from her neat bun as she looks all around. Lily waves her down to come over, and once close enough she gives a small out of breath curtsy towards Wren and Lily. “I apologise Milady but I really can’t run that fast. And my Li…Wren it is lovely to see you again.” She hesitates before asking, “It is still okay to just call you Wren? It really has been some time and I don’t want to misspeak.”
Wren smiles softly at Lexi’s consideration. “Yeah you can keep just calling me Wren. No one really knows what the Lunaboult name means around here and I kinda wanna keep it that way.”
Lily goes back to pushing them in the direction of the main hall “Yes, yes of course. Your secrets are safe with us. But food, drink, and introductions to your very cute group of ‘dogs’ are sorely needed. I’ve wanted to dine here since I heard about it, pink magical forts are certainly a rarity even in Silverymoon.”
Wren rolls their eyes again, but lets themself be pushed into the main hall with the merry group of people and beasts alike right behind them. As reunions go, this one is off to a pretty good start.
