Objective:
Follow a map discovered in the caves of another mission. Clues of map deciphered by Bert and Ernie (smartened gnoll duo) who pointed me in the direction of D’Avalon. Discover what treasure and/or mysteries it holds.

Details:
Team gathered in Three Headed Dragon before paying for teleportation to D’Avalon. Upon arrival coincidentally met with current King of D’Avalon, on good form and happy to help with his knowledge of the local area. Informed map likely led to place NW of city, approximately three days walk. Then offered to allow team to borrow royal magical horses to speed up journey, would get there in under a day instead.
Team gratefully accepted, with promise of joining in on evening party with the king, and on way to royal stables stopped at Madam Miriam’s to visit and drop off my dogs and Igrainne’s spider.
King gave further info on area indicated by map. Grasslands terrain with no nearby settlements, possibility of dragon patrolling the area.
Picked up royal horses, they were pitch black with draconic-like hand legs and approx 7ft tall. Fast as a whirlwind.
Leave city via the West road, arriving in map area in a few hours. Had to pause at regular intervals as horses so fast that couldn’t see terrain while moving. Arriving at area team immediately noticed that it was a ruin structure (ancient and weathered), with statue at back and pool of water at its base. Pool of water contained a partially submerged large serpent? Skeleton and stature looked elvish with golden glowing lettering at its base (celestial writing).
Glint, Grimes and Igrainne further investigated statue and found it to be infused with magic, the writing spelt ‘I send out this map to seek help’. The markings and magic on the statue matched to that of the humming map in my hands, and a map shaped hole was present in the statue as well.
Seeing this as obvious key to proceeding, I placed the map in the statue. A voice immediately began speaking in my head thanking me, then the clouds above us gathered and darkened as a large golden circle appeared on the ground below to create a portal.
Team proceeded through portal, arriving in large ornate abandoned library. Voice was now speaking to all of us, called themself Seraphina, and seemed to have aggressive mood swings from serene to angry (like two people speaking to us simultaneously).
Seraphina informed us they were dying, that this place was dedicated to Thoth and that only his followers could touch the books, and that they needed help to be unbound so they could retreat to the upper planes to regenerate and prevent their demise. They also revealed that Thoth has stopped communicating with them but they didn’t know why.
Team decided to proceed so as to assess the situation further and make a more informed decision about how to go about helping Seraphina (if we even should help them). We descended down multiple flights of stairs, leading to multiple floors of books, with each floor having a unique central theme (an example was a floor dedicated to planetary bodies, another to creatures).
There were many books.
Eventually we came to a room with a deep hole (also lined with books) that proceeded to what Seraphina called the vault, a cloud layer at its bottom prevented us from seeing what laid beyond. Knowing there was nowhere else to proceed I jumped down, the team following shortly after.
Arrived in open room of golden clouds, at its other end was a celestial horse crackling with energy (I was later informed it was a Kirin). After conversing they revealed that to unbind them we either had to fight or give up 5 years of our life. The party was a little split on what to do, I didn’t really like the idea of fighting someone who just wanted to be free. Eventually Igrainne tried to banish them, but this failed and Seraphina grew very angry and attacked us. Delilah managed to stun them with her fighting style, allowing team to flood in and take them down. Team managed to do this and cause the corrupting crackle of energy around them to dissipate. Their own form then soon also dissipated, with words of thank you, we had managed to unbind them it seems.
Seraphina told me Ilmater would be proud and gifted me a beautiful magical bow etched with pictures of the dogs I have taken in and looked after. I look after it well.
After this we were safely ejected from the library, and team made the way back to D’Avalon. Upheld my promise to celebrate with the king and tell him of the place we discovered, he seemed most pleased with this.
Conclusion:
Place in the map discovered and investigated, it held both treasure and mysteries for the whole team. Seraphina released and now hopefully healing.
P.S. Mum why can’t you just tell me what’s going on? I’ve thought about what I could have done wrong and I don’t know. Just tell me. Please.
