The Adventure of a Robbed Tomb
In which there's a well-mannered good-looking lady, a university professor (they get better), and fanatics fighting each other.
We met Hanif Hanivar at the Daring Academy. Bad omen. Too many books around. They're a professor there. They gave us a piece of paper. Told us it's called The Scythe and asked us to go looking for it.
"Why are you looking for it if you already have it?" I asked, pointing at the paper. University people - never make sense.
Apparently they wanted the real thing. Follow the stars, find an ancient tomb. Ok, fine. Went with Ivan and Felix. I think they still aren't married. Ivan fancied the aarakocra scholar who joined us, Bones, so I don't think they will. Laurel also came with us. I don't know them that well, but Cleaver is friends with their goat, Poppy. We left Poppy at CHAOS so that they can catch up, and went south to find the tomb.
Found it eventually. Just as well because Ivan and Felix were bickering so much I was tempted to make a tomb for them on the way. The entrance to this one was blocked by a huge ass rock. Ivan drank a potion to become stronger, and another to be smarter or something.
"You're taking too much doping, mate," I said. "You can do this stuff without it."
"Yes, but I can do more with it!" He answered.
I shook my head, went to the rock, and pushed it away myself.
"See, that's how it's done - with your hands," I huffed.
We went inside. A narrow corridor led into a large room lit by candles and a huge magic symbol. I sighed. It was an obvious trap, so it only remained to wait what it actually was.
It turned out it was Hanivar. Or, actually, they turned out to be Rahmiel. A very pretty grey-skinned female fiend. Huge horns, huge other things, long red hair, big round amber eyes. Definite improvement over the university professor.
She said something about this tomb now becoming our tomb, and we proceeded to fight. Felix and Ivan hit her, I had to sidestep a bit, so I was looking at the demon, and them in the background. Just easier to get my blood boiling.
"Laurel, can you take out this purple light?" I gestured between my flail hitting Rahmiel.
The cleric did as I asked, but it didn't do anything. Another ruse. Smart.
In the meantime, Rahmiel focused on killing Felix. Understandable. She almost succeeded, but Laurel turned back just in time to heal him to full health. It only lasted until another infernal blow from Rahmiel, but hey, better than nothing. For some. Me and Ivan were cheerfully pounding at Rahmiel. Bones was a bit hesitant on account of the demon being his former friend, so he went looking around and found out that the key to defeating her were the candles on the altar.
As we all but murdered Rahmiel, she turned to us and said:
"They cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
Worthy are you, our Lady and Goddess,
To receive glory and honour and power."
That… sounded a lot like what our shamans tell us about how we go to fight in Acheron after death. Of course, she was also a zealot! No wonder she complimented our style now and again. Somebody who can read the room, finally!
I inclined my head, holding my axe to her throat.
"A pleasure to fight someone with such good manners," I said, respectfully, and cut off her head.
Bones was horrified at me killing his friend. A bit of an overreaction, if you ask me. She was trying to kill us, so all's fair in love and war. Bones was still able to determine that the temple was dedicated to Shar, an enemy, or another side, of Selune. Between him and Felix, they established that the writings on the walls were in Celestial and Abyssal. We looted the temple and left. Bones and Laurel stayed behind to do some boring science stuff, while we returned to the Daring Heights. Ivan seemed a bit down because he helped killing his crush's friend. Ah, well, that's just life, I say. We've all been there at some point.
Laurel came back to fetch Poppy later in the evening. They said Bones was better, and Hanivar, too. They were apparently found bound in some secret room at the Academy, and were actually alright the whole time. All in all, it was a good trip. I kept thinking about that demon. No fussing around, no moaning about being dead, no begging for her life. Just a verse and a good fight. Pity you don't get to fight classy people that often…
