At Dawn We Glide
Saga + Bullet-point Summary
[From The Saga of the Loyal and Cultured Berzerker, who was Anåbæl Two-Stœp]
Six set out on a lake, just frozen,
On the behest of an elfen monk, tall.
Slipped and slid, did that happy half-dozen,
Heeding the cry of stilled waters, cool.
Snow sprung forth in the trees unbidden,
Not a cloud in sight, yet the flakes did fall.
Whence from sprung galeb bllbs, erstwhile hidden
- until they too couldn't resist the call.
Long they skated, their joy unabated,
With the maidens, whose hearts they stole.
Sparkled fists bumped, and on shoulders they jumped,
Sharing shaved ice from many a bowl.
(Take good care, best not eat them whole!)
The joyful, craggy folk, in time soon spoke:
To request a contest, of skating supreme.
At their behest for this fest, inside our Ana woke
Her passion to skate - and to compete was her dream.
Valiant were the efforts of the lake bed's Didi
Sketching waves with feet clever and small;
Bella beckoned her chosen partner, Lolli,
Sprightly, cast through her legs ... she didn't fall.
Next, Ana's legs pumped, liked bellows at a hearth.
She circled thrice with the grace of a bird,
Whence each javelin flew unerring: traced their path
Into the tree's knot, perfect first, second, third.
Her bid for glory not yet over,
Ana's pace increased once more
As she leaped, and rolled forward, seemed to hover...
Silence ... then cheering from the pebbled shore.
The crowd still cheered, as tuneful Lolli
Skated sweetly (like the pop she bore).
Saving Dwirian's grace 'til the end was no folly,
As her icy ribbons flowed, more and more.
In the end there could be one winner,
Thus was proclaimed the goliath's score
As far as skating goes, she was clearly no beginner!
But, one surprise was still in store ...
Through heaving icy arose a mermaid,
With hair of weed and eyes so blue.
Astonishment! But that would soon fade
As Murky shared her purpose, good and true.
With gifts exchanged and all explained,
The galeb bllbs said their goodbyes.
Each sought embraces, 'til none remained,
Then watched friends part with teary eyes.
Ana will treasure her victor's band
of ice that's beaded to last forever,
Leaving DD and Dwirian hand in hand,
To enjoy the remaining weather
(and, we hope, to stay long together!).
To glide on ice - a simple pleasure;
These moments bright, it's right to treasure.
Dwirian can now evade grave dangers hiding,
Speeding away on Ice Boots of Gliding.

My Summary:
1. Ana's first Kantas adventure, and is serendipitous and unplanned(!), starting before dawn
2. She's clearly an early riser when travelling, to happen to stumble on the others!
3. Adventurers go skating before dawn, at invitation from Dwirian (Ana asks to tag along)
4. Dwirian freezes the lake over (which acts a bit oddly) and starts to teach the others how to skate
5. Snow appears locally, triggering the group to uncover the small rock folk (galeb bllbs)
6. These creatures are innocent and well-meaning, and here due to another influence, they have been living on the lake bed
7. They are very playful and enjoy making snow, sitting on Ana, magical fist-bumps with Lolli, and making magical shaved ice.
8. Dwirian is especially interested at this, as her people can survive on the water (alone!) of Lake Gallivere
9. Galeb bllbs can't taste... and so are fascinated by the adventurers' reaction to the very strange flavours of shaved ice which they magically embue ... None as good as Is-candy!
10. The galeb bllbs propose a skating competition.
11. The adventurers share inspiration (including from Boosya's spiritual weapon pom-poms, which feels to Ana like Hygge)
12. Ana eventually triumphs with a display of athletic strength and acrobatics (3 speed-skating laps with "Winter Triathlon" style javeling throwing on each circuit ... Building to a fourth and final speed lap into a high-jumping forward flip!)*
13. Ana is awarded a tiny, beaded bracelet made out of forever ice by the galeb bllbs
14. A giant, fey/celestial mermaid** appears in the middle of the Lake - "Murky"
15. She is a guardian protector of the galleb bllbs who must regularly and seasonally move home
16. She makes sure that everyone has been behaving themselves, before sharing some gifts
17. Dwirian shares some gifts in return
18. The galeb bllbs and Murky Portal Away(!) while the adventurers head on Home
19. Ana goes back with Boosya to NH, where she lives with her husband, Oswald
20. Dwirian and BB remain together by the lake, as the sun rises
*Inspired by the Thaynysh winter triathlon, Ana speed skates three times around the lake, achieving a sharper and sharper angle on the bends. On each turn, she hurls a javelin at a conspicuous knot in a tree, beyond the watching crowd. On a fourth and final lap, Ana leaps, performing an aerial forward flip close by to the spectators.
