Cinnamon Poached Apples
By Lord Jaezred Vandree
INGREDIENTS:
• 1 sweetseed apple*, peeled and quartered
• 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon of sugar
• A dash of blackcurrant squash
DIRECTIONS:
1. Put the blackcurrant squash in a small saucepan and fill up half of it with boiled water. Add sugar and put on heat until the sugar dissolves.
2. Add the apple slices to the saucepan and allow it to boil for 10 minutes.
3. Add the cinnamon and boil for another 5 minutes.
4. Once the apples are soft, serve them in a bowl with a scoop of the syrup from the saucepan. Allow it to cool down first before eating.
AUTHOR’S NOTES:
I served this dessert to a friend whilst camping during an adventuring job. He needed some comfort food after receiving cruel, verbal beat-downs from will-o’wisps sent by the goddess of pain and suffering and witnessing his couatl guardian pass away in his arms. (It is a long and complicated story.) It is an exceedingly simple dish but, with its warm, cloying. spicy sweetness, it does the job of comforting the soul marvellously well.
Things got better for my friend, however, when he was reunited with his long-lost, famous celebrity of a mother (who shall remain anonymous), who has been living in the same town as him this entire time. Mrs. [REDACTED] was once a widely-admired performer in the Faerûnian Underdark until she got tired of its politics and made a gracefully mysterious exit. Currently, she lives in quiet retirement in a fabulous townhouse and has aged quite well, looking as ravishingly beautiful as I remembered her from my youth, if not more so today. She had lost her son for a time due to a poorly thought out deal with the Maiden of Pain, but now they have been reunited. Happy days. I, for one, am glad that the Dawnlands has been blessed with the presence of a true homegrown superstar.
But that’s enough gossip for now. Enjoy the dessert.
*Some might prefer to import their apples from outside the Dawnlands but my tart red orbs are sourced by Appley Ever After in Port Ffirst. Support your local businesses.
