Rolled into a hand sized tube is a piece of nondescript parchment written in a mix of common, symbols, elvish, and draconic, with a sketch of a leech in a bottle.
ASSIGNMENT REPORT #19
People/Organisations of Note:
Oziah Daybreaker – holy warrior, aasimar (fallen), female; mount: Deimos (skeletal, fiend)
Jaezred Vandree – mage (divine; Chosen of Lolth), noble, drow, male
Heret Velnnarul – stealth fighter, human, male; businessman/partner/owner of OMTC
Carnán – nature holy warrior, firbolg, male; mount/pet: Ulfr (dire wolf, celestial?)
Veridian Pentaghast – mage, human, male
Vexilius – versemaker/con artist, fiend, non-binary (deceased?)
Vexilius’ Associate – bodyguard, fiend, he (?) (deceased?)
K’evin (not actual name) – changeling, he/they (?)
Location:
Fort Ettin – Adventurer's hub
Body:
A wagon, freshly painted in vibrant colours randomly appeared outside of Fort Ettin. When asking Coll, or anyone else who lives in the adventurer’s hub, when it had shown up, all accounts were conflicting. Clearly a sign for concern for anyone of a questioning nature. Daybreakder, Vandree Velnnarul, Carnán, and myself seemed to be the only ones ready to actively question the origins of this mysterious wagon and its owner. A good thing we had, though one of the fresh, new adventurers still lost his life.
A crowd had already begun to gather by the time we had come out of the Fort. A sign that read ‘THE MIRACULOUS VEXILLIUS AND THEIR MIGHTY DRAUGHTS OF IMMORTALITY’ the clear call that drew many of these blank and unknown faces towards it’s stage. A demonstration was held where the black, lacquer masked Vexillius called for a volunteer. The ruse was simple: drink a vial of the ‘elixir of immortality’ and, to prove it worked, Vexilius’ associate (the bodyguard) would fatally stab the volunteer – after the volunteer had verbally given their consent. They were taken backstage, then after a mere moment the person walked back on, alive and well.
It was clever. A simple stage charlatan’s trick of misdirection played on the desperation of those ready to prove themselves strong as heroes of yore. Many of these inexperienced, nameless adventurers fell for it, hard. None of my allies were fooled. Right away Velnnarul and I picked up the K’evin that came back on stage was not the same as the one that had been stabbed. Then, Carnán and Deimos saw the recently resurrected K’evin walk towards the curtain wall of the Fort then disappear once in its shadow.
Everything stank of fiendish deals – and Daybreaker confirmed as such to us. Having already crossed paths with a devil once before, I was not eager to cross another one. But it was clear Carnán was not ready to let this go and I would not let him confront the devil on his own.
So into the devil’s den we went, Vandree and Daybreaker convincing Vexilius to allow us entry. Larger on the inside, it was easy to spot the trail the real K’evin’s blood had left by the recently cleaned floor that led to a heavily locked door. Casual threats were made with posturing on both sides. It was a mere matter of minutes where Vexilius admitted to being a cannibal, telling us that his preferred parts of any humanoid is their legs. I waited for the signal from Carnán that he was ready to take this fiend down.
And when the time came I was held, frozen.
It was magic I have experienced before, and it was clear that magic would work in this devil’s home. But something was off with Vandree, Daybreaker and Carnán’s power. Their magic, tied to one form or another of the divine (NB: Even if some of them would not care to read such words), was being blocked. All three were still ferocious as anything I have seen them be before though. It was extremely satisfying to see the devil that had boasted they could wipe the floor with us was losing with each passing second even with half the party not able to perform at full capacity.
There was a moment however when facing the devil where I had lost my left arm. Or I thought I had. I felt the pain, felt my life’s blood draining away from me as the Shadows closed in… But when Daybreaker landed the final blow on the ever expanding, limb and gore regurgitating devil, my arm had been returned to my person once more like it had always been there.
I still do not know if it was real or not.
As soon as we left the wagon, there was a woosh, a bright light, and the devil’s home was gone. The figure that had taken on the guise of K’evin, approached us and thanked us for freeing them, and then, without another word, they teleported away..
All that remained of the fiend was a leech. Research has been done on it with the help of the mage Pentaghast and the following information was found:
It was agreed with Pentaghast that, because it cannot be killed due to its fusion with this unknown magical source, we will need to find a way to separate it from this magical source so it can be killed properly. Until then, it is being kept in a secure container, under watch. The leech has since grown to fit the size of the container it now resides in.
Report passed on 8 day of Deepwinter.

All that remained of the fiend was a leech. Research has been done on it with the help of the mage Pentaghast and the following information was found:
- It appears to have originated as an incredibly minor being on the plane of Minauros of the Nine Hells.
- Upon examination, the leech appears to have eaten a very small fragment of a magic item that has fused with its body and must have allowed it to gain power and a far greater sentience.
