A knife surprise!
By Marlenka
I haven't long arrived in this interesting city, I travelled from the Port we landed in just some weeks ago and I must admit I'm rather enjoying the change of being on dry land. I do love the sea but the possibility and excitement for my future dreams becoming fulfilled is definitely enough to keep me very happy here.
I met a lass in the Great Hall, as they call it, whose eye I caught, and she had just the saddest look. I couldn't help but ask what the matter was and if I could do anything for her.
She said she had something she had to do, something about a mysterious and possibly dangerous task.
I agreed immediately to join her in her mission.
I need to make friends here after all and it won't hurt to keep my fighting skills keen.
Plus, she has some sort of magic that I am less than familiar with and any exposure will do me the world of good.
A group of us met - a curious blue individual who claims to have a sister here, very friendly type. Another individual who seemed very handy with his tools, although they seemed rather unpredictable at times. Then one more, rather intriguing individual, who had a curious looking imp and an owl friend accompanying him.
We went off together and entered a Chapel in the upper floors, which was fairly small and well kept, with a variety of deities that I suppose some here must worship.
Silvia, the lass, formed a circle of protection, and before long, poof! An unexpected being appeared. I mean, unexpected from my point of view, we weren't exactly given many details of what was about to happen! I do hope she was expecting him or that may have been quite a shock.
Then out of nowhere, we were suddenly faced with some very shady beings. Literally!
Shadows in our very own image! My own shadow seemed to peel itself away from me and faced me down.
I didn't like that at all, and slashed out with my rapier, which, incidentally, seemed to have turned a deep ash colour!! I almost dropped it but it seemed to cut just as well so I held onto it.
I turned to Silvia, whom I was there to protect, but she had vanished, having been replaced by another shadow image, one which appeared to be growing as we blinked!
We all valiantly fought off our shadows, hoping for the best, not really knowing what was happening, as they somehow used our own magic and weapons against us...
Eventually, they succumbed, just as Silvia reappeared, looking somewhat lighter and holding a rather nifty knife.
Once the fight was definitely over, and we declined the somewhat ill timed camaraderie offered by some patrons (of the great hall, I mean... ), and Coll, Silvia explained she had indeed found some solace in her conversations on the other side, and seemed content with the outcome.
All in all I was pleased to see her a little lighter, and we went back downstairs to finish our drinks.
I later pondered my rapier, seemingly turned permanently to a rather ravishing black.
I sat with it for some hours, though it felt like mere minutes, as it hummed with a spark of magic.
At some point, I felt a gentle sort of click inside me, as if inside my head, and my body buzzed with the same hum the rapier seemed to speak.
Incredibly, if I turned it one way, it emitted a faint green glow, which lit up my now dark room. The other way, when turned, seemed to engulf both I and the sword in darkness that also hummed, quite pleasantly.
What a surprise outcome to the day! I am looking forward to whatever awaits me next.
