Some familiar faces and I traveled to D'Avalon to assist with some.. strange magic. Lady Dahlia instructed us to determine the source of the orbs of wild magic that had been enveloping townsfolk and their property for the last number of weeks.
While we waited, we found lodging at The Roost, a local inn home to a family of Aarakocra, including their three sons. I passed some time as the boys ran around pestering the other members of my party, so fascinated were they with the unique group that we had cobbled together.
We decided to stop waiting around and went hunting for clues as to where this strange magic may be coming from - but alas, The Stein and the cathedral both offered no clues. Not even my Iridescent Apple, hard won in the Runaway Library, could track down our quarry.
Midnight struck, and as promised the orbs appeared. Curious things, they seemed to be able to breach the shield surrounding the city. One landed not too far from us, and surprisingly we were not the only interested party: a figure, in robes and a mask, lept into the orb as soon as it landed.
Entering behind them, we made our way into the orb, finding ourselves on the same street but with the scent of magic thick in the air. I began to glow; the others also exhibited strange new quirks. Our quarry, the masked figure, did not seem much effected by the orb.
The masked figure, of which there were quickly more, seemed delighted in the orb's presence, and began to approach us with excitement. Acolytes of Malloch (?), God of Chaos & Wild Magic, they reveled in the power that the orb brought to them.
I regret that I did draw my bow on one, though it is a blessing that I did not loose an arrow.
I regret that not all of my party felt the same.
These acolytes simply wanted to share with us the blessings of their god, and their goal: bring down Lolth. A quick chat, and they did eventually come around to the idea that (maybe) random orbs of wild magic would not be the way to accomplish this task.
A job is a job, and with the acolytes subdued we returned with them to Lady Dahlia, along with the information we had learned about the cause of the strange magic.
