Rolled into a palm sized tube is a page of sketches, a notice, and a piece of nondescript parchment written in a mix of common, symbols, elvish, and draconic.
ASSIGNMENT REPORT #16
People/Organisations of Note:
Little Beastie – trained cat companion
Wren Lunabolt – rogue/scout, aasimar, non-binary; Stripes (trained badger companion)
Jaezred Vandree – mage (divine; Lolth), noble, drow, male
Heret Velnnarul – stealth fighter, human, male; businessman of OMTC
Lord Emmantiensien – treant (ancient, elm tree)
Locations:
Daring Heights – Dawnlands city
Summer Court – Queen Titania’s realm, the Feywild
The Feydark – Under the Summer Court
Underdark – Unknown location on the Material Plane, connected to the Feydark below the Summer Court
Body:
Mission to the Summer Court by note of Lord Emmantiensien to investigate the disappearance of court members into Feydark. Allegedly following a voice they could not ignore. Taken to entrance by a quickling and proceeded to follow particular glowing mushrooms (see attached sheet of sketches). No indication as to what sort of creatures were doing the calling until well into the Feydark proper where evidence of those who have disappeared – some 20 or so Summer fey – started showing up.
Those who were alive showed no response to stimulations, physical or otherwise. They did have the same mushrooms growing out of them which were certainly not from any Underdark, fey or otherwise.
Came to a vast underground cavern where supremely large mushrooms were growing, along with clouds of spores, five mushroom infested mindflayers, and a mycelial network infested elder brain were waiting. (NB: It should be noted that from the moment we started to follow the trail of glowing mushrooms we started hearing the voice that had been luring the Summer Fey. One of the party, Vandree, did succumb but was eventually freed of whatever compulsion was driving him.)
This is now the second time in less than three moons I have come across an infestation of mindflayers and elder brain, the first being in Assignment Report #13. Do not suspect connection at this time but cannot be ruled out.
The final warning from the elder brain before it met its end was thus: “We know where the tear is. We will be coming for it.”
Further investigation yielded the location of the tear and an indication of vast numbers of mindflayers and such ilk just waiting on the Material Plane side.
Information was passed on to Lord Emmantiensien and subsequent rewards were collected.
Report passed on 17 day of the Rotting.
Neh diis lus’a, lus diis’a.
An additional note is added on a separate, smaller piece of paper.
Current location compromised. Attempting to relocate and lay low. Reports may be a bit sporadic.
She found me.
Dear Adventurers,
There have been strange happenings here in the Summer Court, something has taken root in within the Feydark and is calling fey down below to never be seen again. We have been unsuccessful at finding the cause and have lost all that have been sent down into the darker. My Queen has asked that your skills be utilised to solve this problem.
