The downtime thoughts of Kavel ‘Smashy Hands’ Castiron, as he learns wood carving...
I’ve been in Daring Heights for some time now.
It’s been many adventures since I’ve been back to Fort Ettin, where I was allowed to have a portion of the training grounds and create, ‘Kavel’s Corner for Strength and Conditioning’, an area for fellow strength enthusiasts.
I was able to scavenge some old clubs and greatclubs from Fort Ettin’s storage. These clubs will be good for weapon masters to practice their style’s mobility, while also working out any injuries. But, what is really missing for improved performance are heavy clubs!
I could make a variety of different sized clubs out of stone. But, I don’t think many people would be strong enough for pure stone clubs. Better, would be wooden clubs.
Despite how massive the ‘king’ club is, when made entirely from wood, the 75lbs club looks less intimidating than stone clubs, so people are more likely to give clubbing a go. But, I do not know how to make wooden clubs.
Unsurprisingly, heavy clubs aren’t common. I’m not going to find them in the marketplaces. I’ve looked. Both Port Ffirst and Daring Heights - tragically empty of good, warrior utensils. No, sadly you only tend to see heavy clubs at dedicated strength establishments like the Iron Strong Company’s gymnasium, back in my hometown.
Sadly, not many people feel that strength comes first. Strength is undervalued by too many...
Ah! If there are going to be proper, wooden heavy clubs at Kavel’s Corner for Strength and Conditioning, I’ll have to make them myself!
I’ve seen woodcarvers use hammers and chisels to shape wood. I’ve used these tools when shaping stone. But, the hammers and chisels that woodcarvers use are so much smaller than my masonry ones, and the work; more delicate it seems. And also, carving stone wasn’t my specialty. With my goliath strength, I could do better work at the quarry, or at the stone bank; shaping the stone for construction, or even at a site, fixing the stone together. Artistic stone work wasn’t for me. Hmmmm. Woodcarving is going to be less smashy smash, and more Softly, soft.
This will be a new direction for me. One where… strength isn’t first?!
