Report #40
Objectives:
Assist Havertash Trading Post in repelling attacks from a unknown group of creatures.
Team:
Myself - Accompanied by Beans and Stripes
Cyclone - An genasi covered in golden attire
Jaezred - High end elf mage
Osborin - Hungover elf mage
Jacinta - New Hillborrow scouts leader
Details:
Team teleported from Fort via teleportation circle to area named Havertash, with purpose of meeting with Zajar Goldstone and Qelme Terbenor who requested our presence. Greeted by Neil (an aerotaur) who managed the circle in Havertash, then moved south through city to meet Zajar (a well armed minotaur) before moving on to the trading post (a 5mile hike from the city).
Information gathered from Zajar informed me that the Trading Post was unusual in the fact that it was a joint venture between the Kul’ Goranians and the Shunned, two groups of people who have a history of conflict and generally not getting along. The market was meant to signify a unifying presence of a newer generation fed up of this, and has seen success even though many condemned it to failure from the beginning. It is also a trading post known for it’s ‘weird stuff and street food’.
Walking to trading post involved hike through the gusty and open landscapes of Kul’Goran, on hike over we were informed by Zajar of nature of night attacks on the Trading Post walls. The high walls of the Post are covered in scratch marks each night, and recently one night the northern gates were nearly torn through. No citizens present during night as purposely kept away from trouble, so no sightings of creatures so far.
Team arrived to post during day, noticed it was well defended with structurally sound palisades and only two main gates in at opposite ends. When there met with Qelme (a hobgoblin with druidic magic), they man the gate of post leading to Heart’s Nest.
Team given time to explore post before nightfall. I bought a number of ‘weird’ items while there, this included a bag of dragon claws, a carved bone portrait of a pirate and the occasional side table. Fellow team members also purchased similarly weird items, and enjoyed the array of food available.
While purchasing items, Stripes noticed an individual in a leather duster and cowboy hat with a particularly bright object in their pocket. Upon noticing the presence of myself and Jacinta, at the trading post this individual starting running away fast after looking like he was caught in the act.
Team pursued individual aggressively and had them surrounded in centre of market. Cyclone and Snap (a summoned crocodile) in melee, with myself, Jaezred and Jacinta in long ranged. Seeing this the individual hid themselves within a plume of thick smoke by crushing a figurine in their hand and then summoned a bull fiend.
The individual nowhere to be seen, team engaged with and took down fiend before they harmed any citizens. As fiend disintegrated by Jaezred, I spotted individual by the exit leading to Havertash before they teleport jumped further away. Cyclone rapidly pursued. She informed us afterwards that she chased for quite some time but the individual eventually went round a large rock and fully disappeared from sight (likely teleported further away).
Informed afterwards from Jaezred that individual likely Langston Farstep. A known nuisance in the Dawnlands who is suspected for murdering the archfey Sarastra.
Jacinta magically spoke to Stripes, but he knew only that the individual had a very large shiny object, could not get any further information.
After this incident team remained to deal with creatures that had been attacking the Post, these were revealed to be Howlers and creatures that the team efficiently eliminated. Post no longer in current danger from these attacks.
Conclusion:
Night attackers of post eliminated, Qelme and Zajar pleased with this outcome. Mission successful.
Noticeable appearance of the individual Langston Farstep. What was he acquiring at the trading post and why?
Wren finishes their report, folding it up and sliding it into a envelope to send to their mum back in Silverymoon. As they do so they look to the red leather bands on their wrists, a recent purchase from Havertash, nothing magical to them or spells cast. But they do look like red cord binding round Wren's wrists, and they say in quiet words almost like a prayer "I don't really know how to do this. But if you do walk with me Ilmater, then thank you."
