(FYI - based on 9 active participants the funeral costs amount to 37 GP each.)
As Gold holds little interest for Grimes (and being grateful to have survived after losing 76 hit points over the course of the battle) he has sent a purse to the Mayor containing 150 GP with a note:
Mr Mayor,
I enclose my share of the funeral costs for those brave souls who died fighting to protect Daring Heights. I'm sure you are already receiving contributions from my fellow adventurers and warriors.
If you have not already had this thought - might I suggest that a hardship fund and widows and orphans fund be set up? There must be many families who have lost their main "breadwinner" and it is pain enough to lose a loved one without worrying about starvation or eviction on top.
Please put the surplus monies from my donation to such use.
Sergeant at Arms Val Mox and I will be in touch in due course with initial suggestions and plans regarding the new Watch unit you would like set up.
Many thanks for the splinter crossbow "peacemaker".
kind regards
Sergeant at Arms Grimes

Val arrives at the office of the Mayor early one evening. In his hand a small pouch of coin, heavy in his hand. Val knocks against the large wooden door, and for many moments waits in silence. The door opens to the face of Harold, the secretary of the Mayor, "Evening." Harold smiles as he opens the door "Here, for the funerals." Val hands the pouch of coin to the man, and turns to leave. As he does, Harold opens the pouch, to see 50 gold coins.

The mayor, Daffles, writes back to Grimes.
"Thank you for the donation Sergeant.
It will be helpful to a number of families. We've lost a number of guards and soldiers over the last year or two as we've set up this town, and I've always held with the belief that those who fight for you fight better if they know their families will be taken care of. So naturally, such a fund already exists, and this will be added to that. This recent battle was certainly one of the largest losses of life Daring Heights has suffered.
As a small point for you to know, unless they are quickly adopted by another member of the town, or old enough to reasonably look after themselves, orphans in Daring Heights are generally taken back to Faerun to larger orphanages. The frontier is a dangerous place to be growing up as it is. We have yet to find ourselves secure enough to reasonably set up an orphanage.
With regards, Mayor Willum Daffles Viscount"
