asside from the pressure of putting everyone there at 12:00 to sign up it really favours those that can be there to sign-up first thing.
You could have any number of systems, have people roll for a slot or a tombola. It doesn't matter. You could even have an advantage for those who haven't played in a while because of bad luck so they get increased odds.

I'm sorry you're not happy with the signup system, if you want to know more about why we do what we do it this way I'm happy to explain it to you. Posting something calling our system dumb seems unnecessary and quite rude tho. I assure you all the KDMs and WBs are working hard (in our spare time, for fun) to make this work for everyone.

Feel free to explain it, I can't be the only one who feels the same, sitting at a computer at 12, refreshing just to post.
There's absolutely no way it's a fair or balanced system. I want to be clear I'm not calling anyone dumb for picking it.

Then I'd like you to use a more polite language when speaking about it, please. Like I said, the KDMs and WBs do this in our spare time and we came up with this system so please be respectful.
We've gone through a number of different signup methods since the beginning of Kantas. As Kantas grows, we've had to change. Previously it was random game drops at any day of the week, any time. This lead to frustration as some people would be unavailable when they dropped. We reigned it in to Saturday mornings, which instead lead to frustration because people had to sit by their computers all of Saturday morning. So now we post rumours, let people read and prepare, and unlock them all at the same time. We've found this allows for a more even spread, as people tend to focus on one rumour as opposed to signing up to them all as they drop.
Several times, we've looked at having some sort of randomized/automated system. We promise, we've looked into this. But as Kantas is run by people in their spare time, for fun and free, this becomes untenable. It would take an enormous amount time to set up and run, and very quickly get out of hand. There are simply too many factors to take into account - the fact that people come and go in Kantas being one of them.
We understand that it's frustrating not getting in a game, but we also know that every week, some 30+ people manage to get signed up. Take a couple of weeks and try it out, and see how you get along. There are a number of tips and tricks that Kantas players have figured out, I'm sure they're happy to share them with you in #kantas-General if you ask nicely.

Thanks for the explanation, but it doesn't change that people will have to sit here each Saturday at 12 just to sign up. I'm not salty about not getting a spot or potentially missing out.
I have to ask, what is the value of posting rumours and putting things ahead of time so people can research up, when it all comes down to server response time and being available at precisely 12? People are just coming up and posting as quickly as possible, there's no grand trick to it.
At the moment, there's only 1 game for each level bracket to sign up for anyway. Perhaps it'll be different after the season finale, but if people signing up for multiple games was a problem You've already solved it by having players only be able to play one game per week. If people signed up for more games and got into them, they would have to pick one anyway, at which point the spot would go to someone on the waiting list, which I assume would be the next person who posted the soonest. The real issue is that you have seasoned players with high level characters and secondary characters, with low level and they have the option to play multiple games per week with different PC's when it could just be one game per player per week so they have to decide which one they want to focus on, with the potential to get more if a slot becomes open.
You've solved the problem of signups being released at random (which would be even more problematic with first come first served) by having rumours release earlier in the week and signups open up on the weekend and be available on that weekend, but what is the point of them being open for any length when they're decided in minutes? All you're doing is cutting out people who had other things to do at 12pm on Saturday.
I don't know why you're so defensive of the system when it's obviously the simplest and that's perfectly fine, but the problems you mentioned are partially gone. You could just have numberwang and make people post a number between 1-20. 17, that's numberwang, you're in. Granted, that would be the first to numberwang so if two people posted 3 it'd go to the first one, but it would mean less time pressure for everyone to sign up.

As I've said, we've looked into this. Several times. It's not compatible with our model as it quickly becomes unmanageable because someone has to sit down and do this, every week. We've decided to put together games and then leveled the playing field as much as possible and let the players sign up. We've also looked into limiting players to one game/week but arrived at the conclusion that neither DMs nor players want that.
I'm defending a system that we're very often asked to defend when new players come in. I'm glad you're not salty or frustrated about it - but I must say I think you're coming across as such when calling our system dumb without speaking to a single person about it first on Discord. (Which is probably why I'm coming across as defensive.)
Another player has explained why a randomized system wouldn't work in #kantas-gen if you want to go take a look.

There's no need to discuss it. It's obviously bad and you know it's bad but you don't have a better solution.
If it was as simple as random selection, all you'd have to do is pick a number Or just sign up and get picked at random. No time sensitivity or dedication.
There's no complexity there, no hardship.
Every single time a game comes up, you have to be there at 12 on a Saturday or you just don't bother.

This isn't a productive discussion so I'm stepping away from it.
