Another One Bites the Dust

The day started off when Celina received a note from Mistress Songbird. The note read:
"My dears,
You served me in such entertainingly effective ways before, I cannot wait to see what you will do given a second opportunity.
I need an honour guard for a meeting.
I am attending, and would be delighted to procure your services.
Meet me in the Witching Court,
Mistress Songbird"
Celina smiles to herself and sets off to help out her favourite witch. Celina off course remembered the odd way of getting to the witching courts. That is something that is hard to forget after being there once. Once Celina arrived at the location she spots the other people there. There was of course Felix (The Mountain Dwarf), Oziah (The Aasimar) and Ivan (The Human) who she’d met on previous adventures. However there was a new person called Carnan, who appeared to be a Firbolg that stood at least 8 foot tall. “Old and New Faces, excellent. I wonder what this woman wants”, Celina thinks to herself. Soon enough after looking around Mistress Songbird comes out to greet everyone. She was wearing her tailored hat, waistcoat and a skirt which was trailing on the floor. Celina noticed she was accompanied by a fabulous albeit slightly different elf woman. This woman was wearing a beautiful white ball gown who went by the name of Belladonna. Once introductions were done Mistress Songbird proceeds to tell everyone the plan, that she just needs an escort. She’s meeting some people and wants to bring back up just in case things go wrong. And that she will pay us 100 gold each for our services. Celina had to get her to clarify that last part again as this was the largest figure any quest so far had promised her. She was so happy she didn’t even try haggling for more money, she was shocked.
Celina pretended to do her usual “I’m just a simple shopkeeper” routine as she does before every mission to her group. However something was off today. Maybe it was seeing all the familiar faces but Celina just didn’t convey her routine story the same was she usually did. With that, doubt started to form in her fellow adventurers and she was sure that nearly everyone wasn’t accepting her “simple” shopkeeper act. They were beginning to get very suspicious. Belladonna even said something in thieves cant at Celina about her. Celina very much embarrassed by her feeble attempt at her story and at what just happened could only to nod and wink back. “Well... maybe this new person won’t rat me out – that’s not too bad…. However... dammit Celina, we’re going to have to rethink our story going forward. Especially to people we've seen before”, Celina considers to herself.
Next thing, flying ravens appear and everyone’s advised that these ravens will be bringing everyone to the location we need to go too. Everyone gets on a raven except Oziah, who decides to ride her new companion Deimos. Carnan appeared to also have a companion that looked like a large wolf and Belladonna also had a companion that was a white fox. Both of these animals run alongside Oziah and Deimos, on the ground. Hours passed by travelling on these ravens and Mistress Songbird sung lovely songs to the ravens the whole time, which Celina thought was quite pleasant. Songs always cheered Celina up. Finally after more hours passed, the ravens seemed to descend and arrive at a location that had tones of trees of all varieties. Everyone dismounts the ravens and Mistress Songbird turned to them and said in parting words “We will remember this”. The ravens seemed to nod to this and then they all took off. Mistress Songbird then led the way towards the area we needed to go. Celina couldn’t help notice how Carnan was quite slow behind everyone. Celina turned around at one point to observe. She thought, “Wait is he… yes... he is actually saying hello to every flower and tree he could see? Very odd!” and let him continue his strange behaviour. However poor Ivan wasn’t doing so well after being on one of the ravens. He was looking quite ill. He asked Celina if she could have any apples? Celina toyed with the idea of charging him a large price. But then she took pity at the human and decided to just give him an apple for free. Thinking to herself, “We’ll get him back again”. However after giving Ivan the apple, he immediately started to sing Celina’s praises. He talked about how much of an amazing apple seller she was. That he would defend her against any that doubted her. Everyone else in the party looked confused at poor Ivan, feeling pity for clearly falling for Celina’s obvious lies. However Celina thoroughly enjoyed him singing her praises and asked him to continue doing so. This put Celina in such a good mood, then she didn’t notice that they had reached a glaive.
Mistress Songbird announced this was the location of where she was to meet everyone. Everyone got to work examining the area and keeping post. However Celina decided her uses were best to be used by keeping a close eye on Mistress Songbird. Celina thought maybe she might tell Celina more about Queen Nicnevin. Celina and Mistress Songbird got into a conversation and after some time she leaned in close to Celina and asked a question about her shop, “So how high on the poison side are we talking here?”. Celina thought about her shop and the potential to have poison apples… “Maybe one day… ahhh a girl can dream”, Celina thinks to herself happily and then sighs in her head. Then quickly response to Mistress Songbird saying that they’ll talk again later. Celina was very cautious to the fact there were a lot of people in the area that could have heard her discuss her shops main secret plans. As Celina says her final words to Mistress Songbird, Celina notices in the distance Oziah talking to someone who just approached from somewhere. They appeared to be a female dwarf, who Felix immediate heads towards and starts flirting with. Seeing this interaction, Celina has a brief flashback to a happy point in her life when she was with Ludwig, her partner… her love. But she quickly dismissed these thoughts before the painful memories of his death comes to her. “Stop thinking about this Celina... deep breathes… now listen to the conversation and forget! No room for him here...”, Celina says in her mind. She focuses on the conversation she can hear before the feeling of sadness takes hold.
“I expected more people”, are the last words Celina hears Mistress Songbird say to the dwarf lady. Celina learns her name is Kathleen. On observation this lady appears to be a botanist and had a very mad scientist vibe to her. Out of nowhere Belladonna starts throwing daggers in some nearby trees and all of a sudden more people start to show up. Mistress Songbird looks completely confused and starts mentioning she thought something like this might happen. And before we know it a large battle begins. There appears to be assassins and people from the winter court attacking left right and center. Celina tried with all her might to attack but none of her blows were sticking to the enemies. Celina was genuinely worried that this was going to be the end as there were just too many enemies… maybe she will see Ludwig sooner than expected? But all of a sudden the odds started to shift in the groups favour. There was one final guy that appeared to be the main person to take down. Oziah and Belladonna nearly had him but Celina managed to sneak in with the help of Belladonna’s white fox. Without Oziah and Belladonna fully knowing she was there, Celina managed to take out her rapier, sneak in and deliver the final blow to finish him off. To which Oziah proclaimed, “HOW?? YOU ARE JUST A SIMPLE SHOPKEEPER!!!”. Celina smiles in amusement and didn’t reply with anything useful.
After everyone recovered, Kathleen started to talk to Mistress Songbird about how she appreciated the help from the summer court. To which Celina was most keen to learn about the Sunflower soldiers. “Where were the Sunflower Soldiers? They would have been good in the fight. They are strong to take down”, Celina proceeds to ask. To which we all learn that it is in fact Kathleen who created the sunflowers warriors and thanked Celina for her compliments on her warriors. Celina was impressed with this woman.
Mistress Songbird opened up a portal and next thing everyone was back in the witching court. She apologised for how events went but she was glad she brought as backup. She then pays us all the money as promised and throws in an extra item each. Celina gets a special hat which she foresees many uses with.
All in all a good day. She parts ways with the group and decides to head to Daring Heights with a spring in her step.
