First little (paid) adventure in this new city went well. Got a little hairy at times, fell subject to a curse that would've been difficult. Thankfully got it removed.
All started with a calling for "adventurers", guess I fit the bill. I always thought myself I was a vagrant with a distant purpose unconnected to where I am now, but I'm beginning to see a path. I'm not really here for adventure, I'm hear for power and access to it. In any case, myself and some others showed up at this gaudy casino. A place with more money than sense, a desire to show it off and also seemingly demonstrate that it's knowingly wasted money on things offensive to the eyes. We could've built an orphanage but instead we gilded everything with gold and had a fountain.
Anyway, I'm constantly aware that I stand out, the mask makes people suspicious and the robes aren't regular attire for a place of this climate, but at least all the companions on this mission also stood out and it was very apparent we were all here for the same reason and had no interest in the casino. Well maybe the thief had some interest in robbing the casino, but that's likely a future endeavour and they were just scoping the place out right now. And yes, there was a thief, constantly stealing things, but more on that later.
So this group, mostly newcomers, maybe half and half. You could tell some of us had just stepped out of the portal and some where clearly more established. One was a shop owner, no idea what they sold. One was a woodsman who needs a new bow. A wizard looking for a step-up in society. A bard(?) and the aforementioned thief. I forgot most of their names already. note to future self, if I ever meet them again, write them in here.
Man with Hawk - Angrier?
Wizard -
Bard(TBC) - Glint?
Thief I kept walking into - Alonso?
Halfling - Glint? - Shopowner?
Right so this group has been asked by Leopold Di Canto (the restaurant owner) to rescue a friend who got stuck in the Feywild. For reasons I don't quite follow, the casino has a portal to the feywild (close your eyes before going through). This guys a Red Dragonborn, so he should stand out in the feywild. He's also into bows and magic and would stand out even if you stood him up against other Dragonborn. Should be easy right? Except it's the whole feywild and we only have a broad indication of where they went. Though at least we're pretty sure they're there.
So this Dragonborn, Steve. He's lost, gotta find him. Unclear what his relationship is with Leopold, friend lover, moneyroller, unclear. We go in anyway. We check the directions of this bizarre that Steve supposedly went to and head on over. The market is pretty big, open plan, lots of tents and stalls. We figure he's a wizard, check out a wizard stand. So we go this wizard hat that's a shop. In it, they sell masks. I immediately felt targeted. My mask isn't anything outstanding and this place is just full of magical masks. I need to return there at some point and see what they offer. Though lot of the masks were of people and animals and I don't think they really conveyed what I'm after in a mask. Also the price was memories or something. I'm not sure I want to give up those, any of them, as I'm not sure what that would mean for me. I'm not sure if I have any memories someone would want to buy, and I'd want to keep any I did.
Now this Mask shop owner, who was half hair half ?, deeply annoying and evasive, but it's the feywild and that's just the vibe of the place. Had to resist the urge to just beat the information out of her. She's deeply suspicious, she had a mask of a red dragonborn there but knew nothing of a red dragonborn? Suspicious and where did she get all these masks and how does she make them? No idea, may need to be careful when buying a mask in future.
So anyway, this woman directs us towards a hat selling goblin (Steve was friends with a goblin) and that goblin leads us onto a curse box shop. This curse box shop will pay you to open cursed boxes as long as you're willing to take on the curse. This is also suspicious. Could Steve have opened a box and been cursed? Possibly.
So the Wizard in our party, or was it the bard(?), is desperate to know what's in a box. But they're taking time, asking questions, so I'm up for opening a box and getting it over with, but the bard/wizard eventually capitulates and opens the box themself. Nothing happens, they get 30 gold. So now I want to try, because we're getting 30 gold for this anyway so it's like double pay. So I open a box and these tendrils come out and strike my eyes. Doesn't seem so bad at first. Then as we're moving on (we got directed to some slaver who works in a boat or something), I start to bump into our theif and I straight up can't see them.
Now this thief has been sneaking around pilfering things all day, so maybe it's just a thing they do, turn invisible. But they assure me it's not, I just can't see them. Something's happened. I can see some people but not others, hard to tell, can't see who I'm not able to see, makes it hard to narrow down. So it seems this curse did have an effect and maybe the bizard will feel the effects but much later, or it was less obvious, who knows. There don't seem to be that many invisible people around, I can still see a fair amount of people here (turns out humans were invisible and it was the feywild, so not much to worry about), so we press on to this ship.
For some reason though, we stopped by this diviner who threw some bones around and told people what they wanted to hear. I could probably get in on that. People were selling their personality to get visions of the future. Visions such as victory in battle, money from the shop and don't set things on fire. So after we're done with this charlatan, then we move onto this ship. I don't know why it's a ship.
Turns out this Steve got drunk or otherwise duped into turning into a lizard. Perhaps they got a lizard mask from the mask shop and turned into one. Not sure. So there's this Pixie who sells people and animals, or possible just animals, it was unclear. Whilst everyone is talking to this pixie about something. I decide to do some snooping, as no-one else is. Turns out our thief Alonso was snooping as well. They probably started snooping as soon as they entered the place and were probably just looking for things to steal. I found a lizard, red skinned with a bow and a wizards robe that weirdly shrunk to fit them. I was going to melt the lock off but was advised that this may be too noisy. It takes a little while for Alonso to unlock the lock, but it gets the job done quietly and this Pixie is too busy selling our woodsman a hawk and taking his height. She only took a few inches, but at least it was off his height and not elsewhere.
So now we're out and pretty sure we've got Steve, it's a clear route out. For some reason, everyone decides to steal sweets on the way out. I think that's Alonso's bad influence, anyway I was too unsure as to why everyone started stealing so I didn't join in.
We eventually made it back to the Casino without incident. Leopold is sure that he's gotten Steve back and seems happy and pays up, so that's all good. On the plus side, Leopold wants to get Steve uncursed from being a Lizard, which suits me as I need to get uncursed as well. So we all head over to a temple of Corellon Larethian (is he still going?). I thought the place was empty, but apparently it was full of followers. The head priest (whom I can't see) first cures Steve and thankfully, it was the Dragoborn we were looking for and not some Lizard Wizard. Then, the priest turns to me and suddenly I'm cured and can see all the people now, I don't know what all these humans are doing in a church of Corellon but it's fine. I can see them and hopefully there's no-one invisible out there anymore.
So this Priest wants me to pay 20 gold for the uncursing, which is almost as much as what I got paid to get cursed in the first place. But as it happens, I want to get in with the church, maybe not Corellon as much as others, but it's a good start and I only need to work for a week to pay off my debt and it may make for good connections, maybe they can put me into contact with a Demonologist or Devilologist, whichever. But anyway, it's good to make connections and get started on my path in these new lands.
