Step One: Finding A Job and Form Your Team
Find an easy job from the noticeboard for adventurers that will make you some money. Locate a bunch of adventurers that you’ve met before to join you. Should your adventure bring you to Daring Heights and towards the Stoneglass family, you will need the following people for the quest, along with yourself:
One Aasimar – let's call her Velania
One Halfling – let's call her Kelne
One Half-Orc – let's call her Varga
Lastly let’s add a talking cat. Let’s also have him wearing a backpack and we’ll call him Greebo.
You found them, perfect! You can move onto next step.
Step Two: Team Bonding
Make chit-chat with your adventuring group while heading towards your new job location. Sometimes sharing stories can be good to help pass the time. You will need a story which may or may not have some truth to it. Let’s say in this scenario you own a shop and said shop might have made a loss in sales this month and you had to pay a substantial chuck of your money to keep the shop from going under. If someone like your Assimar adventurer Velania, asks about your shop, tell them the story about your sad profits this month, showing your vulnerable side. In the hopes they buy your sadness and take pity on you. This might actually help you on a mission. Allies are vital to any mission as you might need backup fighting a dangerous creature. Sometimes your allies can be used as “meat shields” when you don’t want to get stabbed on missions, but that’s for you to know and not mention out loud. Always good to have a "meat shield".
Step Three: Arriving at Entrance to Employer Establishment
Arrive at location of where you will get instructions for your job. In an instance where you might come across two doors, such as one large door made for large creatures and one very small door. It would be at this stage that it would be a good idea to see what your half-orc adventurer does.
Do they choose:
Option A. Calmly Open the Large Door They Can Clearly Fit Through and Proceed In?
or
Option B. Smash Through The Small Door With A Hammer To Make Way In?
If your half orc friend chooses Option A, your half orc adventurer is clearly quite smart and you can continue to step four.
However, if Option B was chosen, you are probably fleeing from the guards of the city for destruction of property. You might need to find somewhere to hide for the night. Then restart these steps back at one with a different Half-Orc in your party.
Step Four: Meeting your Employer
If you made it to this step, congratulations!
Next, this is where you would meet your employer at a specified location or at their own establishment to get further job specifications.
It is important at this stage to work out the following about your employer:
1. How wealthy is this person?
Let’s say our employer this time is an old aged female gnome and we’ll call her Cassandra. When entering their establishment, note any strange or usual things around the place. Things such as a painting of a river and trees painted over and over again on the walls or how everything in the place is made out of wood and only wood. These are a sign that your employer might be what some people refer to as a “crazy person”. With these signs you might not be able to get any more money and best here to cut your losses with trying to haggle for more. In this scenario, Cassandra is this “crazy person”.
2. What is specifically required for the job?
For this example, we will learn that our adventure group are to locate her missing son Derek.
3. Where is the job location and how far away is it?
Last know location was that he was last seen in some coal mines north of the town and through the forest.
4. What exactly is the reward?
If we bring back her son, we will get a reward of 25 gold each.
5. Can they provide us anything useful for the job?
In this case, our employer can’t provide anything but tea and snacks for the road ***
*** Sometimes your employer might offer snacks or tea before the start of your work day. My advice here is to always accept snacks! Snacks and drinks are good and please your Tiefling stomach. If you’re on friendly enough basis with your employer, you could find out more personal information about them. Such as occupation, maiden name or whether they are single and looking to date any older gentlemen in the area. These things are fun to find out about your employer – and add more personalised touch to the job.
With your new information gathered, leave your employer’s establishment and go forth with the job request!
Step Five: Stick to your travelling traditions!
It’s always important to remember, there is a strong possibility with all adventures that you and your whole group might die. It is a risk each adventurer knows. That is why it is important to remember traditions. One such halfling tradition is to show your team members how much you care for them by placing small “tokens of luck” upon their person. Your halfling adventurer will provide tips of what types of tokens are appropriate. Tokens of luck are known to bring incredible fortune to all adventurer groups and prevent less deaths every year. It is said the more tokens that are placed on fellow adventurers while travelling the more luck they will have. So, observe your halfling adventurer and watch carefully. In this case, Kelne’s tokens of luck to our group would be small tree branches from the forest. Once you spot your halfling doing their token of luck tradition, you should always make sure to help out your halfling place these tokens upon fellow adventurers.
(Note: Not every person is aware of this halfling tradition and might get angry at you for just “placing sticks on people for no reason”. If only more people knew this was vital for their own safety and not “just for the Halfling and Tiefling’s amusement”)
Step Six: Set Up Camp
Walking for hours, can be exhausting and it’s hard to find ways in the dark. Despite your amazing darkvision abilities be considerate to other adventurers that don’t have darkvision and rest up for the night. Work on adding more "Meat Shields" to you aid. It's best if it's getting quite late, to camp for the night. Remember to always listen to your talking cat on where to camp, as everyone knows cats know the best locations!
Once you establish your camp and make fire, your group should take some rest. Make sure to have at least one person on watch throughout the night. Organise your rotation schedule and then catch some sleep before your shift.
Be careful how you wake up your fellow adventurers sleeping. Some adventurers have strong reflexes to being suddenly woken up. There are rumours of a Tiefling who once punched a cat who woke her up unexpectedly. Luckily, the cat was alright and no damage was done to anyone.
On your watch throughout the night, make sure to look around everywhere. Do not get distracted with discussions regarding plans of placing more "tokens of luck" on your adventurers again with your halfling. For example, if a strange creature known as a Monodrone carrying some rabbits on its shoulder comes out of nowhere mumbling “0” and “1” to itself, approach with caution. Don’t yell other numbers from one to five at it as it might flee.
Should a creature flee and you can’t catch up to it or kill it, it’s always advised to wake up your adventure party and move on swiftly.
Step Seven: New Day, Set Off On Your Travels Early!
Now that it's daylight and you're on your travels again, the journey should be easier on the eyes. Should you find yourself in a scenario where the path to where you need to get to is not clear, let your Half-Orc lead the way. Watch as your Half-Orc adventurer creates their own path. Your Half-Orc will hack their way through the trees & shrubbery with their axe, this specific way is known as the “Varga” way. Even more impressive is if your Half-Orc can do it all with a cat around her neck, and a Halfling that now looks like a mini version of said half orc running around and causing distractions. For everyone else this is always a special treat to watch.
After your path is carved and you are now at the location your employer mentioned, it is best to locate which entry is appropriate to proceed through.
If you are a magic user, and if this case you are using mage hand is quite handy to locate hidden pathways at a distance. Also another handy spell is to summon your invisible servant. We’ll call him Barry. We can get Barry to explore potentially dangerous options. Once you locate your preferred entrance into your building, proceed with caution.
Don’t forget about Barry now!
Step Eight: Take Advantage of Stealth
Stealth is always recommended going into unknown locations. You don’t know if there’s a dangerous enemy around any corner ready to pounce. This is also a good time to use your allies as the mentioned “meat shields” method previously. Very useful!!! So stay at the back of the group and get ready to fight.
Should your group come across more unusual creatures like as Tridrone, they will start talking like “1-0” and “1-1”, proceed with extra caution here. These creatures get spooked very easily. Should the creatures flee again, come up with team plan to try and talk with one of these creatures. In this situation, a good plan could be to get your halfling adventurer to disguise herself to look like one of the creatures, so these creatures don’t flee on approach. Get her to approach their group cautiously and try speaking their 0s and 1s language. Oh, and this would be a good idea to send in your servant Barry to help protect the halfling should things go wrong. He’s invisible after all, what could go wrong?
Step Nine: Get Ready To Fight!
If you can't see anything focus your magic on your servant. Should you discover that Barry has been slain at any stage, you must get revenge and get ready to help your Halfling friend! If that should happen, a fight will occur shortly.
Before fighting, keep an eye out before doing anything rash. If you do you might spot Derek the gnome, the person you were tasked to find. Have some adventurers go talk to your target. In this case, Velania and Greebo will go and talk Derek. Figure out his crazed quest with some god called Primus. Learn that he has created all these creatures (Monodrone & Tridrone) and just wants to finish one last piece on his new creation (a single Quadrone).
If things aren't going well and your adventurer aren't getting your target to come peacefully, send in the Halfling again. She could come in and “Charm” Derek. That way he will follow her every whim after that. Simple! Derek might suggest something as a last request that he will come if he finishes his last creation. Once he put in his place piece in his Quadrone, his new creation comes to life. This new creature will talk in a lot more 1s and 0s than it’s previous successors.
If you want to fight something on this adventure, do you choose:
Easy Mode: Weak Simple Robots
Hard Mode: Two Unknown Enemies - Pentadrones
The correct answer is Hard Mode! Makes life more fun. Rethink you adventure choices if you wanted Easy Mode!
Now you are on Hard Mode, just before you leave two creatures known as Pentadrones will appear and try to attack your party. They will have the ability to attack with one of their five arms and also attack with some paralyzing gas. Luckily, you have a fire breathing cat that can do some serious damage. Your Half-Orc will be pleased for battle and your peaceful Aasamir will show their true nature with their battle skills.
Slaying the monsters in this situation will be easy with your amazing team. Remember with a Pentadrone, it's important to stab their eyes. Obviously as you are a Tiefling you would know where to find their weak spots. Rapiers are quite stabby in this case.
And with that battle your team will emerge victorious – obviously if that happens thanks also has to your Halfling with the tokens of luck!
Step Ten: Collect Your Reward
Make sure you explore any location you have fought thoroughly before you leave in case there's any further hidden monsters... or loot lying around. Should you find a chest in mines that no one needs add those extra items add to your inventory.
Return back to your employer, who will be over the moon with the work. And she will pay as promised.
(Optional) Step Eleven: Go for Celebratory Drinks
Go out for celebratory drinks after! Should you get sucked into a drinking contest – make sure you win! Drink up!!! While there make sure your peaceful Aasimar gets tea, your Cat gets milk and there's lots of alcohol for your drinking contest buddies the Halfling, the Half-Orc and your Tiefling self.
And... congratulations you have completed your adventure!
Repeat this process whenever necessary.
