Day 1
Travelling
After helping the inept police force of the port, and the most well organised criminality, Simon wisely decide to find a better place to settle in Kantas where he could take care of few important things, like don't getting robbed of his new two scrolls, and new coins in hand. Most importantly to never lodge at the Cavernous Seashank because it might be even more traps set waiting around those greasy and dirty rooms. Or even worst, some still angry vines might wake him up from his sleep after burned mother "nasty wardrobe" vine.
As well he needed to look for Master Veridian, and hand over his letter of presentation from Candlekeep magisters. Asking in town, it looks that the last people that have seen Master Veridian was towards Fort Ettin. So Simon prepare his equipment, buy some travel food and some other small necessities and start to walk along the path.
The moment that he stepped outside the port, he felt somehow much safer in the wildness than from those strange eyes in town looking for trouble.
The first part of the trip was quite uneventful, the nature around Kantas is quite different from Candlekeep surrounding, and even looking for few plants and trees that didn't see before, it is a nice different pace and setting on what he was accustomed for. Unfortunately the forest changed pretty quickly in to a swamp full of flies and weird interesting insects. Using some incense help to keep most of the flies away. The walk is difficult, but there is a visible path on the road used by other people that try to move more inside.
His divination helped him to find the perfect spot for the night. Some other local travellers were resting nearby, and by following the trails of the smoke, he made himself known and shared the ground and meal with the temporary tent of the small caravan, going into some other places in the opposite direction.
Day 2
Travelling
Waking up in the morning without opening his eyes, as thousand of time before, Simon take his wand point it to his temple, and pronounce some whispered words. His dreamlike visions reach him and show him briefly what would happen today. He open his eyes and breathing in relief that this is not his day to die yet. He has some warm tea by the fire that he light for the people by controlling an interesting blue flame. And he says his goodbye and walk again towards Fort Ettin.
The walk is long and slower than Simon would have liked, no other people met on the road, apart from some local frogs jumping around the bog. This swamp indeed is called the Frog Bog not for nothing. The sky is clouded, there is some wind that seems to be picking up, and that promise bad weather later. He foresaw that it will be rain, and even if tiring Simon he is pushing himself to go faster as his frail body allow, to reach the fort before the rain will fall and make these roads even more muddy than already is.
After passing a bunch of nasty old black tree, the Fort Ettin is there on sight, recently built (historically speaking respect to Port Ffirst), and suprised to see it quite compact respect on Candlekeep (he couldn't find any information around the Port on what was the description of the place), he finally reach his journey, just in time when the drizzle and the wind is starting to picking up.
It looks like that no guards at the door, and not even a door at the gate, making the Fort quite less secure than expected. People inside anyway were more polite than expected, and after saw him to be a wizard and probably a man of some use, they let him in without trouble, looking actually forward for getting some coin from him for the accommodation.
Simon didn't waste time, and he is been pointed straight away to go to Ettin rooms. Here the place is run not in the classic military way, because Simon realises that there are no guards whatsoever on the ground. Everyone is a civilian working and taking advantage of this strategical business to run it as an odd hotel. Even so people are more brisk and practical than others, because there is so much to do and so little hands. So no much gossip was to be found, and few warning issues on the safety of handling himself in the whereabout of the fort.
Without hesitation he paid the fee of the rooms, and he left himself comfortably rest in the bed, falling at sleep quite immediately without even undressing.
Day 3
Working
On the early rise, Simon start immediately to take his pen and few ingredients acquired before departing from the Port, to practice in the safety of the room and fort, his Divination magic to assimilate the spell Identify. Knowing the basic principle of divination the spell was easily dominated in just 1 hour.
With the rest of the day at his disposal he decide to explore where allowed the rest of the fort and look for Master Veridian. Unfortunately he discovered that the Master he is away for some business pending his attention, but he should come back promptly because he is normally always working in the alchemic lab, brewing and testing potions and ingredients.
After the disappointment on not finding his Master, Simon cheers up when discovering the presence of a library and some presence from few people of the Academy of Daring Heights in the fort. Simon steps quickly towards the corner tower to try to get some more information and access to the Academy. He discovered quite quickly that indeed they need hands in dealing with some books and translations for some rich gentlemen. He therefore start to learn the library cataloguing system, meet some few scholarly faces, and start to work in find the right translation of the passage in question.
Incredibly so, it seems that the Scholar are not as organised as well, even worst than the resident in here, too few people to take care of so many many books stored in wrong rows. Simon saw this kind of behaviour in Candlekeep as well, probably a political wars between some Magister librarian on the productivity of the right organised system of semantic and methodology of the common word. Regardless, he realised that he will take more than a day to find what he needed to translate for.
Day 4
Working
Another beautiful day spent at the library, finally Simon find the translation and actually a book that looks wasn't catalogued anywhere from either of the two magisters, having all the relevant information to the nature and benefit of herbal administrated for medical purposes via inhalation. It looks like that some witch lived some centuries ago already found quite benefits that no other wizard ever thought of. Well clearly Wizard don't think much in terms of cooking as Witches do.
Regardless, he than decide to write a dissertation on the matter, and provide all the relevant documents and cross referenced to the magister and the rich merchant. Both people where so impressed by the quality of a scholar of Candlekeep, that they paid me even more than actually agreed.
Even so, Simon felt and saw a shadow looking during his stay at the academy library on this last day. Unfortunately his vision didn't warn on the particular on this shadow figure, and he know that it would have warned him if it was a real threat. Probably it was just a jealous scholar and nothing more. These rivalities are quite common in small places.
After finishing the job, he decide that it is time to meet check if his future master Veridian was back, brings his nice parchments and inks to give as gift. He is hoping for the best, his foresight says that this is the way to marvellous and unexpected adventures... and extraordinary complications!
