SPOILER WITHOUT CONTEXT
CONTEXT: I always laughed a lot when I was seeing a game of throne episode, and seeing these posts. So I want to the same for Kantas. Here an example from GoT s08e3
DEPUTIZED
Simon walks into Kantas. A simple single step... nothing more than a step that is long for thousand and thousand of miles from Candlekeep to Kantas. That's the power of magic. That's the marvel of the power that makes run the world. A portal that connects two places, united by bending reality by will alone. A power that he finally holds in his young hands ready to be unleashed on his whim.
The moment he steps on the other side, he feel the change of pressure and atmosphere in the air. He is looking ahead, for opportunities waiting for him to be taken... but above all a way to lift his curse (and blessing) of his own making. The pact that he struck 6 years ago with a devil. A pact that he grants him magic.
During his studies as young wizard apprentice at Candlekeep he heard stories that weird and powerful things happen in same places of the world, and he heard that Kantas is always in search of people looking for such opportunities. Probably because magic act differently in here, but most of all because powerful forces and dangerous events happen when the karma that shape and change the destiny of all... is more fragile. If destiny is fragile, he can be bent at will... eventually.
One simple step at time, he walks towards the Port First Watch, where he hard they are looking for people willing to help the law in bringing a criminal to justice. Just a job to reach an end. Get some cash quickly before going to the alchemical lab in Kantas where he already assured an apprenticeship there, to bring a gift and be more presentable. He walks as well because thanks to his studying of divination he knows what would happen ahead. It was his way to anticipate when the devil he will appear again to claim his soul and thwart the possibility of dying unexpectedly early.
The future even if weird, he is known to him, in sort of images and dreams every night, and this what this time he shown to him through the power of divination:
He doesn't know yet what it means, but he is sure that something will happen and he will take every advantage is possible to reach his objective. To find a way out of his contract.
------------------------------------
I am reaching the Port First Watch the first encounter is not the guards themselves, but a devil... an old Tiefling called Faust, which he is looking for a job as well. Soon after few more odd people appears, with the same intention of quick cash in hands. Weirdly enough an angel cleric of Selûne and a paladine protector of the opposite faith. What an odd couple. In the same day meeting an angel and a devil, and two cleric of opposite faith. Luckily enough these individuals looks pretty tolerable. The real threat anyway is the last arrived, the She-Orc Varga. Clever, deadly, and with no hesitation to act.
In short, I must say that the police force is incredibly incompetent as they are full of money to use. Not even a test to see if we are worthy, the First Watch place is empty. No Captain Galliant , no guards. As we are about to look around a late Ootine (an org guard with poor intellect capacity of being remotely helpful but with arrogance typical of a policemen to sell) arrives. She deputise us and tells that 2 more people of the guards Jum & Alkas are missing. On top of that the prisoner that we have to watch out for that should have been in the jail, this terrible Bell Ring. It was actually not there.
I must admit, not knowing my foe, I imagined that he must have tricked us with some sorcery and he was still in the jail. I was willing to STERELIZE the place with fire just to be sure that wasn't hiding, but after few creative magical attempts to check without opening the door, we realised that this thief, must have been already escaped. On top of that, he was capable of get rid of the extra guards even before we, the reinforcement of a terrible police force, arrived. Varga suspect since from the start that such foe must have been captured on purpose, and this make the whole situation even more dreadful.
Therefore after let myself being take of a fool, we follow the plan of the rest of the group, and see what happen to the missing guards. With Jum, a door paid the hard price to stop us for few seconds in between our purpose to solve the riddle of the missing prisoner. As we enter, we see him knocked on the ground unconscious. Nothing has been stolen (which it was quite weird). We mending him enough to remind him how poor job as guard he is because their prisoner escaped. Unfortunately for him there is no mending of the door after a personal talk to talk with Varga. Not my problem, but the guys seems good of hearth enough to put back the door in place (probably blocked against the edges, the poor fella will probably enter from the window when coming back at home)
While we go to get Alkas, we enter the Cavernous Sea Shank, and I am aware immediately how bad the drinks are here, because my fellow companions cannot wait to throw the drinks on the floor. What a poorly manners.
We reach the room above the bar and here the surprise happen. It is a trap! There is no guard around, only traps on traps at every corner of a common appearing rooms. This room makes me finally understand the level of planning and teasing of Bell Ring. He is so audacious on his plans, that he leaves on purpose a trail of info hidden in between deadly surprises. Unfortunately for Bell Ring, my capacity of seeing the future and the deadliness of Varga, help to save the group from various sticky situation. The biggest of which, an angry deadly vine left into a wardrobe to hold hostage the last missing guards. Varga, fast as fury of an ogre, cut pieces after pieces of the monster. Me from a safe distance burn the devilish blue fires across the room hitting and extending the fire all over the plant. The other members of the group each one in main while helps in unrevealing a mystery and traps in the room. Even so, we keep everything under control, and Faust sit comfortably on the chair and read some parchments while we are chopping and burning this growing vine. He tell us a poetry of a certain M. Jackson and gives comfort to an ally struck by the vine.
Lucky enough we spot in time the last guard and I extinguish the blue fire (with the image of the supposed M. Jackson overlapping my face laughing maniacally while dissipating the flames). My power over fire is complete, and I like to burn things in style. Possibly with tonality of blue that complement my outfit.
After saving Alkas, we discover that Bell Ring used the room, and he left enough proof to show that Varga was right. He was capture with a secret purpose of stealing something that has yet to arrive at the fort. Unfortunately I do not understand why escaping prematurely if he was yet to steal the item, unless he already stole it, or something has gone wrong. I believe that a master of traps, lays plans on top of plans, and in all honesty I admired Bell Ring, playing like a fiddle everyone at the police force. Maybe in the future will make more sense to get some contact with the underground society. They looks more organised than the actual police force. We'll see what the future offer.
Anyway it looks that Bell Ring had in possession of some scroll, and some other powerful items this indicate that he is resourceful and has access to a black market that I might be interested to reach someday.
We got paid and yet, never seen the Captain whatsoever. Morale of the story. Never trust a cop to do the job of a professional.
Now is time to get a gift to present to my future Teacher of the alchemy and magical stuff. Cannot wait to learn some more, and make the destiny mines. Destiny, be kind, show me what will happen tomorrow once again!
