Rolled into a palm sized tube is a piece of nondescript parchment around a notice from the Adventure Board in Fort Ettin, a rough sketch of a location, and a detailed ritual described on the report. The parchment is written in a mix of common, symbols, and elvish.
ASSIGNMENT REPORT #4
People/Organisations of Note:
Osborin – verse maker, half elf (aquatic), male
Terciel – holy warrior (god unknown) and pact weapon wielder, half elf (sun), male
Kalta – fighter, half orc, female
Carnán – nature holy warrior, furbolg, male; wolf companion/pet
Bug Bite – ‘cookie seller’, goblin (grey skinned), female
Egg – minnow fish (Bug Bite’s pet)
Imril – witch, eladrin, female (of the Witching Court)
Margotin – butler(?), eladrin, male (of the Witching Court)
La Jin – eladrin, bodyguard, male
Grolail Nusk – human, verse maker, spirit
Curzion – eladrin, male (of the Summer Court)
Locations:
Fort Ettin – living location, home base for adventurers
Summer Court – see attached sketch for location
Body:
Met Imril of the Witching Court on western edge of Fort Ettin for the job she wished us to undertake. Job to be done at the request of the Moonweaver to infiltrate into Summer Lands to “free a wayward spirit”. Whilst discussing particulars, Terciel and Osborin were charmed by the witch into revealing one of the Summer Court ambassador's supposedly murdered a Winter Court ambassador. (NB: No way to know how true this is, the verse maker seemed to doubt it whilst the holy warrior seems more inclined to believe it. Imril very intrigued by the information either way.)
Tasked with performing a ritual which would free the bound spirit and find out their Names. Witches could not go themselves, hence why they asked Dawnlanders as meddling in another court’s borders would be seen as a threat. Imril said our group would be fine but there was information she did not reveal to us.
Plane shifted to the Summer Court by walking into a pond on the Fort Ettin grounds and saw our group rise from a still lake in the Summer Court (see attached sketch). Noticed the faint sound of music being played on the violin. Discovered it was coming from a willow. Beneath its roots was the shrine where the supposed spirit was trapped. Proceeded inside and looked around; Discovered a reception area, a supply room, a room made of stone with an alter where particular incense was to be burned and then the main room.
After extensive exploration and much deliberation of what could be used in the ritual it was Kalta who chose to speak to the spirit which was inhabiting the shrine, asking what they should do. Taking one of the bundles of incense from the supply room, she proceeded to burn it on the stone alter. What proceeded was a blaze of fire, smoke and ash – and a story told about the verse maker (Groail Nusk), their bodyguard (La Jin), and their lover (Curzion).
In summary: La Jin loved Gorail but they did not reciprocate their feelings. Then the verse maker met Curzion of the Summer Court and fell in love and many years passed with the three of them together, La Jin never leaving Gorail’s side even though their love was unrequited. Gorail suddenly died but La Jin did not wish to leave him alone, unprotected. Curzion performed a ritual that transformed La Jin into a construct that would forever watch over Gorail until the verse maker was able to move on to their final rest.
A few more puzzles and protections were bypassed before we were faced with the construct that La Jin had become. They explained that Grolail was bound to his instrument – a beautiful, ornate violin – and that so long as the instrument existed he would be unable to move on. Curzion used to visit but had not come in many moons. (NB: It was unclear how long, but the impression was at some length, possibly many turns of the wheel.) Much discussion and deliberation was had amongst the group and with La Jin, with an appearance of Grolail’s spirit trying to communicate to us, though none understood the gestures he used to communicate except La Jin. Eventually, it was agreed that the ritual we were sent to do would in fact free both Grolail and La Jin.
Once Imril’s ritual was performed the shrine and everything within started to rot, any life or beauty withering away. Osborin wrote “Imril” in the ash whilst “Was Here” was added afterwards by another of the party.
Upon return to Fort Ettin the witch in question was gone but Margotin, the butler/servant who attended her, handed us our rewards with personalised notes of thanks to each. Not once was a name given, yet this does not cause concern as of writing this report.
Report passed on 11 day of The Claw of Sunsets.
Neh diis lus’a, lus diis’a.
Capable adventurers wanted for a potentially dangerous excursion. May include elements of exploration and overcoming hostile obstructions.
Those interested should attend the new Fort and ask for Bug-Bite.
Scribbled underneath in a scruffy hand are the words: 'Pleze buy a cookie'
