After the assassination of Sarastra and Sheryl being framed for murder and 50 years since their mother was lost Faye needed answers. Too much was going on in the Feywild and the visions of war between the Courts that was given to Faye and Sheryl by the Raven Queen was becoming all too real.
Being away form home for so long, they had almost forgotten how beautiful the city was. Carved into the inside of the glittering glacier that rests atop the mountain. Each beam of light striking the ice and instantly dispersing in a dazzling display which caused most of the others to squint. Elias, however, was used to this. They grew up surrounded by the glittering lights.
In any event Faye had made a promise to themselves to remain calm and collected. Just a quick visit to an old friend and then out. Morinn would never know.
Elias’ time in the Advent of Silence flashed back through their mind as they snuck through the streets. They couldn’t help but wonder if Lady Silence would approve of Faye Persona. Faye was strong, confident, able to talk their way out of or in to anything or disappear in a flash. They had every quality the Advent and Lady Silence expected of them... except blindly loyal to the Queen.
All thought of Lady Silence and her approval cleared Elias’ mind the moment they saw his house. Artemis Lahani. Possibly Faye’s only source of information in the Court. Possibly Elias' only friend left in the Court. The only one that both would approach. They had spent years together growing up and playing in the halls of Morinn’s Castle. As much as Faye Persona wanted to, they could not push those thoughts from Elias’ mind. It had been 50 long years since they had laid eyes on him, since their icy blue eyes had met Elias’. A crack in the cool icy exterior of Faye Persona had started to form. This would not do. Faye warned Elias, recomposed themselves and started forward, knocked once, and held their breath waiting.
He answered and Elias finally exhaled. The years had changed his round face. Now he had this signature high cheek bones of an elf, long raven black hair and those eyes crystalline looking eyes which widened when they met Elias’. “Elias is that you,” he remembered Faye’s real name. Nobody had called them that since their mother.
With none of their usual structured arguments or applications to logic that was the usual Faye, Elias had blurted out something about needing to speak privately and asking if their friends could come.
His home was warm and welcoming. But something didn’t seem right with him. He was different than he was before. Faye eyed him suspiciously. He was looking for a way for this to be advantageous. The crack in Faye Persona’s exterior grew further. Hurt and anger burning beneath, melting the icy and calm appearance. He was dodging the questions. He didn’t want to help. Or perhaps he couldn’t… this was Morinn’s domain after all and betraying her could mean his life. Elias did not want that.
But in all of this one piece of information brought warmth, hope back to Faye. Their mother was alive. Frozen on the side of a mountain by a method that may be impossible to reverse sure, but alive.
Sheryl voice rang out in Elias’ head, “this friend of yours is lying to you”. It was true. He was.
It was ruining Faye's moment of triumph. Their mother was alive but Elias' friend was lying to them.
“There are better informed people, but you know that this kind of information is played very close to the chest.” Artemis had kept information back too long. The pretence was getting nowhere, and Faye had spoken enough.
“Indeed, I am very familiar with the sensation, in fact I feel like I am experiencing it right now.” Despite the fire behind them the words had left Elias’ mouth cold and biting as any crack from their whip. They hung in the air. Very quickly Faye resumed control of the situation and finally Artemis gave the information needed. The Ladies of Secrets could answer Faye's questions. They probably should have been the first choice being the Archivers of all Morinn’s amassed secrets.
Why had Faye put the chance to see Artemis before the mission...
The Ladies of Secrets lived atop the peak of the mountain. Faye had known Morinn a long time, this was too easy. Never had they seen or heard of an enemy who could make it up the mountain with no resistance from her. Unless that was what she wanted... but they needed this information.
The Ladies, one an ancient fey in flowing white robes, the other with the unmistakable blue firey eyes of a Lich, in flowing black asked a steep price for their knowledge. Three secrets for three secrets. Faye had to offer up the Mirror of Secrets and one of their own but the price was worth it. Finally, there were leads on Sarastra's assaniation, a way to free Elias’ mother and a way for Sheryl to return home. But Faye couldn’t shake the anxious feeling. Then the Lady smiled… “of course she knows you’re here”.
Then they were running. Then flying on Peini’s eagles. An army of Eladrin at their back demanding Faye hand themselves in… but thankfully with no hope of catching them.
Then it clicked. Faye had been so stupid. We had played right into Morinn’s hand. She knew I was here the whole time, she allowed me to meet Artemis and knew he would send me to give up my secrets to her. She wanted to know how far I would go to meet my goals or find somehting to use against me. Then she was going to bring me before her and use what she knew to bring me back into the Advent and with what she knows now… she was probably going to succeed.
