Of the Moonlight Dangers: Werethreats
One more night spent in Aurelia’s library, one more night invested in the retelling of old stories. Today’s story strikes close to my heart, it is none less than the beginning of the journey I’ve been sent on here in Daring Heights.
Many might not know this, but I’m not your typical born and raised cleric, I was trained in scholar arts learned from the best sages and sent on my path to a monastery. That was not the path the threads of destiny had in mind for me after all, for my true destiny, my faith, came to me directly no more than a few years back.
You see, most holy men have an unflinching reverence for their gods and act as their subjects, even though they might spend their entire lives without even getting the slightest glimpse of their deity. My story is a different story. I was heading towards a dark path, a path without divine guidance, a path of selfishness and a path of ruin. The Moonmaiden herself decided to directly interfere with the strings of fate that command my destiny and for that I will be always grateful.
Anyway, these are stories for another time, stories that have nothing to do with Daring Heights and nothing to do with the dangers that surround us. Although my relationship with The Silver Lady is of great importance for what I’m about to tell you today.
You see, due to the peculiar relationship that I have with Selûne, a few weeks back, shortly after I’ve crossed the portal, I was granted visions by the Moonmaiden herself. Visions of a place not far from Daring Heights of great importance to her and consequentially of great importance to us all.
Naturally, although my relations with most of the adventurers were quite fresh, a small group of adventurers agreed to help me out on this endeavour and so this is how the trials and tribulations of Moth, Galen, Gara, Leocanto, Gunny and I started that week.
We head north through the forest, without any major incidents. On second thought, we did encounter some insect-like creatures that coming to think of it might be related to another story… one I might tell later on. Oh and how could I forget, we encountered the might King of the Roads! Taxing whomever dares to cross his path. Oh well, nothing a little mind-trick couldn’t fix.
Later during the journey, we arrived at the place of my visions although it was very different from when I saw it. The visions that were given to me showed an overgrown and badly kept place of worship but this place here, this temple, was very well kept and taken care of. To my surprise, as I burst the large, heavy temple doors open, there was a Half-Orc in this place, a follower of the Maiden as well. We exchanged words and theories about what my visions could mean and talk of some trials come to the table. I asked to access his library and to my great surprise I found information about his trial and soon enough find a secret passage to the trial rooms underneath the temple only accessible by those of the Faith who cared to give Guidance.
After a few puzzles to test our wit and smarts, we managed to gain access to the room where my mission was supposed to lead me. In here I found the location of two ancient artefacts meant to be used in the fight against the enemies of Our Lady as well as a way to fix and create Moongates, which as many of you know, are somehow related to a recurrent problem we’re trying to deal with.
Meanwhile, in the background bells rang, was it a celebration? Was it an alarm? Quickly did we find the truth, in our absence the castellan had been brutally murdered by unknown assailants. We searched for clues and clues we did find beastly bipedal tracks and claw marks were evident all over the crime scene and also finding some silver weapons stashed somewhere else in the temple everything lead only to one plausible conclusion. Lycanthropy.
Forgive my lengthy story but I mean only to warn you of the dangers we face all around us. Beware of the northern forests. I shall make myself a bastion of light, a force to be reckoned with in the fight to keep these creatures at bay. Any information you might have please relay it to me for any knowledge on how to proceed would be valuable.
