Gilbaron has been a little aimless since the events at Fort Ettin (season 7 finale)
and avoided adventures for a week. Simply wandering the towns. But something drew him back to Daring Heights. Where he saw the posting for an adventure at the Gilded Mirror from Lady Amelie (she has a much more intricate and regal name but Gilbaron doesn't have a great memory).
He and some fellow adventurers, a couple he knew;
Blaze, who despite her fiery appearance had a chilly disposition, but Gilbaron suspects she's more kind hearted than she let's on. And Terciel a Half Elf paladin who carries himself with a regal dignity that Gilbaron finds fascinating.
As well as a few newcomers to the region. It was funny Gilbaron thought, seeing newcomers experience the strangeness of Kantas as he had still felt like a newcomer and stranger to this land himself.
Lady Amelie sent the party to retrieve another item on behalf of her sister. The Amber bolt which was in possession of a coven of 3 forest dwelling witches in the Angelbark forest. Gilbaron had been here before, indeed with Terciel and even recognised a tree that Ian the barbarian had left an axe cut in.
Eventually he and his party discovered the witches encampment and despite a little nervousness on his part, Gilbaron knew that witches and Warlocks didn't always get along, he found them to be quite hospitable. Even offering some lovely spicy forest curry (Gilbaron never learned what was in the curry, and he thinks its better that way).
The witches would hand over the Amber bolt if the party could deal with a scourge in their forest. Mad caps had infiltrated this land, possibly from some other plane and were wrecking havoc. The team approached and fought them. Gilbaron found them annoyingly resistant to his spells. But at the end Gilbaron was able to land a killing blow on one of the creatures. Granted it was after falling out of a tree and firing an arrow blindly through foliage but still, Gilbaron felt pretty proud of himself.
He has survived encounters with many beasts, even killing one and witnessed the death of a Fay Queen, Gilbaron is finally starting to feel like he's earned his place in this strange land.
