The original OrcPub let you create a character, and handled a lot of the basics for you. For free.
OrcPub 2 is a huge upgrade to the original, and is still free. It's a great way of rolling a character, and also has a full set of really nice printable spell cards.
The pdf print function is particularly good. The character sheet it creates is spot on.

Just for anyone who uses this, OrcPub2 has now been Cease & Desisted by Wizards of the Coast, so now only the basic SRD information is available on there (so not even the full Player's Handbook, but a reduced set of abilities and backgrounds, etc.). It's fair, as he was trying to make a ton of money off this service, but a shame to see a good tool go.

How annoying. Anyone know of any other tools that did the same thing?

dndbeyond? It's in beta, but it's one of the reasons WotC came down on OrcPub. It's gonna cost a crapload to get all the digital content on top of the books (for those who've already invested in print media)

Using archive.org I was able to bring up a version of orcpub2.com with everything on it, btw.
Alternatively, it seems that OrcPub2 is still up and you can "create" your own content (or copy in from 5e paper sources)
