BB, Igrainne (RETIRED), and 3 more like this

Dear you,
I know it’s not been long since last I wrote, I know I said I wouldn’t write so often. But I thought you’d like to hear this one. You remember the leaflet I mentioned, which invited adventurers to attend a diplomatic excursion? After travelling to Port Ffirst, which I haven’t yet had much time to explore, I met with the fellow who posted it at an inn called the Flourished Hook.
Norbert was his name, and I immediately took a liking to him. He was a jittery man, but well-spoken and incredibly endearing. Gathered at the inn were five other volunteers, one of which was Ivan, the short-tempered yet strangely likeable sailor I believe I’ve mentioned having met upon first arriving in Daring Heights.
There was a nobleman named Lord Vandree, or Jaezred I believe, who seemed to think he was incredibly above the mission he’d volunteered for. I’m sure there’s much more to him; I’d be interested to find out.
A paladin woman named Kyra butt heads with him -- a strong-willed woman, who seems to have some history with happenings in the area. She wasn’t too gregarious, and so I’ll also add her to the ‘would like to know more’ list, so to say.
A tall and beautiful elven woman named Dwirhian was next to enter, another acquaintance of Ivan’s it seemed. She was soft-spoken and kind, which was comforting. So far, I’ve met some unsavoury or at least unwelcoming types in my recent travels, and Dwirhian was quite the opposite.
So too was BB, a Firbolg woman who was accompanied by a talking shrub named Jasper (really, I’m not kidding). She was also kind and quirky, and seemed to click immediately with Dwirhian. It seems she’s led a secluded life, but I didn’t get time to ask her about her origins. Another one to seek out again some time.
During our initial talks it was revealed that we’d be travelling to the ‘Frog Bog’ to talk with a community of Bullywugs who have seen some hardship. What also became apparent was the divide between approaches within our assembled party. Vandree, Ivan and Kyra fell on the side of possible intimidation to gain the allyship of the Bullywugs, while BB and Dwirhian argued for respect and open communication.
To be honest with you, as I’m sure you’ve guessed, I wasn’t quite sure where I fell. I am all for respect and communication, but I’ve never had an easy time forging relationships and so I have often been guilty of relying on the knowledge of my skills. I fear I may have grown unreceptive to the idea of true kind intentions, with no ulterior motives. I’ve noted it, as I really don’t want to become suspicious of everyone around me.
As it turns out, we had no need to worry or prepare our weapons. Once within the bog (which was absolutely laden in thick, gauzy webs from the enormous spider mounts which the Bullywugs rode) we met with the tribe’s leader. Presenting him with gifts, inflating his ego and accepting his unfortunately rancid feast was all it took to get into his good books. We were invited to compete with the tribe’s best in a series of events.
You won’t be surprised that I triumphed in the target practice, though my Bullywug opponent was very impressive. But you might be tickled by the idea of me wrestling in the mud. It was surprisingly very fun, and it turns out Bullywugs are great sports when it comes to loss.
The final task I took part in was spider taming, which didn’t go so well for me. BB did an excellent job staying on her mount by transforming into a snake - I’d never seen anything like it. I however, couldn’t hold on. You always had much better upper-body strength than me, I would have liked to see you try it.
Lord Vandree took the final challenge, beating the champion fighter with magics I have not seen, and nor would I like to be on the receiving end of. We were presented with gifts for our efforts, and stayed to socialise throughout the night. All in all I left feeling that we’d forged a foundation for a good relationship with the tribe, and it was good to meet some interesting new characters along the way.
I know how much you would have loved to see all of this, and so I hope this account will suffice. With every new, exciting thing I see, know that my first thought is always of you.
Love always,
A.
