“Ah. This might be a bit more urgent than I thought.” she says to the group around her. “I just got a message saying my parents are in court in Za’suul. I told you I wanted to find them to chat and see if they’d come here, but it seems they need some help.”
Looking around at Jaezred, Veridian, Nikja, Osborin and Melancholia, she asks “anyone want to come with me?”
A bit of asking around and they find the best way to get to Za’suul is direct teleportation, and the best person they know to help with that is Khazifa. They had seen her around the Ettin earlier in the day, and after some flattery she agreed to get them there.
Almost as soon as they arrive out of an olive tree, a minotaur clutching a basket comes into view. There are two more minotaurs closing in on her, as she mouths “help me!” to Cyclone. She quickly passes this on to Nikja and then the rest of the group, and Nikja strolls up to greet the female minotaur as if a friendly companion. However, it seems as though the other two already know her, and know that Nikja got her name completely wrong. At this, a spectral raven without a face appears behind them, shortly followed by a large hand raising out of the ground. Cyclone begins to walk towards them when they notice these new apparitions, taking out her spear. Before she can do anything though, they push the woman they now know to be called Hincalia down the stairs and set off running. Nikja grabs one by the horns to keep him in place, and after levitating the woman to stop her tumbling too far, Cyclone charged off after the other, quickly overtaking him. By the time she glances back to see what is going on, Melancholia seems to be flanked by two skeletons firing a volley of arrows at an on-fire minotaur, who then throws a small orange bead on the floor which explodes into flames, taking down both the minotaur and Veridian, and leaving Nikja and Osborin struggling to stand. Quickly dispatching of the other minotaur, Cyclone comes back to find the rest of the group sharing around some healing words and discussing whether or not to let Melancholia add another skeleton to her entourage.
Hincalia looks upset at the group, staring down at the burnt remains of her basket and it’s contents. She explains how her children had been taken by a cloud giant and how the magic beans she had with her were her only chance of getting them back. After convincing her that it was not them but the minotaur who launched the fireball she seemed a little more friendly, but still very emotional. Nikja hands her a pouch of 200gp as some form of compensation. “Well, I better leave the area now, and I suggest you do too.” she says, walking back down the stairs and out of sight.
Following her advice, they all quickly make their way to the magistrate’s court. Melancholia turns to Jaezred to ask whether she should just run in and yell “OBJECTION!”. Jaezred, as ever, tells her she should, and so she does. This gets the attention of a clerk who comes to ask what she is objecting to, and why she is there. After realising that Cyclone hasn’t actually bothered to mention her parents’ names, she gets told to sit down, and tries the message spell to the clerk to help her get back up. Instead of the desired outcome, a loud alarm rings out and two security guards try to escort her out. Instead she misty steps back into the chair and beckons for Cyclone to come over with the others. They all go to the counter to establish the details of what her parents are in court for. Amongst other details, they are accused of “burning down the brewery”, at which Jaezred smirks. The clerk informs them all that they have a bail posted of 500gp, and when Cyclone says she can’t afford this, Melancholia and Veridian are very quick to chip in the remainder.
A few minutes later, Cyclone catches sight of her dad for the first time in 12 years. Behind him is her mum, and on seeing Cyclone they both head straight over and embrace her in a hug she can’t quite bring herself to reciprocate.
After some introductions, they all head back to her parents’ place for some food and discuss what to do next. With her parents out on bail but Cleaver now running to courts, it is clear that they will not face a fair trial, and so they decide they should leave Za’suul. They spend some time working out where to go, and based on the close diplomatic communication between Kantas and K’ul Goran, the better choice seems to be for them to take a boat back to Faerun. She spends some time over the next few days talking to her parents to find out what they had learned over the last 12 years of travelling, and slowly starting to open up to them again.
With a promise to write more often this time, once again Cyclone’s parents sail away from her, only this time she was the one to make this decision.
