New to Kantas and keen for a fresh start, the Wood Elf Skovvakor had made his way to Port Ffirst after getting word of an ad by the Coppertongue Mining Corps (CMC), something about an escort mission. Whilst it was not Skov’s ideal choice, it was nevertheless a way for him to get used to this land.
When he arrived at the Cavernous Seashank, he was of a mind to leave immediately. Despite the best attempts of the barkeep Jed to promote the allegedly popular chowder and frothless ale, Skov could not distract himself from the stench of vomit. An unwelcome start to proceedings.
Skov joined a table of folk who also seemed to be here to provide aid for the escort mission. Perhaps it was Skov’s insecurity, however he was sure he detected subtle mockery from them when he ordered just a water. Matters became even more uncomfortable when one of the folk, a large creature by the name Indeterminate Objection, put his head next to the glass of water, claiming he was merely interested in it. Is water in short supply here in Kantas?
Nevertheless, the group made their way through Port Ffirst to the CMC offices where it was revealed the mission was to oversee a delivery of adamantine to Daring Heights in the role of External Consultants. After an unsuccessful, but commendable, attempt by Mr Objection in haggling over the consultant rates, the group set forth with Tollin Coppertongue, a Deputy Manager at CMC, for company alongside Terence the Mule to drag along the cart containing the crate of adamantine.
Truth be told, most of the mission thankfully went by without major incident. Skov considered the group (Indeterminate, Blaze, Dill, Nikja, Bugloss, Tollin) to be fairly proficient at dividing tasks to ensure the journey went by smoothly. That being said, he did note that Nikja appeared somewhat ‘under the weather’ initially, perhaps the result of wine consumed back at the Seashank.
An unsavoury incident did present itself, however, on a night when it was proving hard to maintain an effective fire for the camp from the surrounding swamp land. Thinking proactively, Skov enquired with Blaze, a creature whose hair was permanently on fire, as to whether she wished to contribute some of her flames to boost the camp fire. Alas, the request was met with hostility and scorn. Skov thought best to let the matter rest. That was a cold night though…
Towards the end of the journey, the group heard sounds off in the distance and what then transpired confused Skov immensely. A large spider, rode by a tiny frog, emerged ahead of them, accompanied by many other frogs in tow, seemingly making some kind of demand. At a loose end, some of the group offered some metals which seemed to be having some effect in keeping things calm. But it was Nikja who came to the group’s aid. Suddenly, she began communicating in the same manner as the frogs. Skov will never know if they made sense to each other however, as the ‘conversation’ went on, the group was allowed to pass, the frogs being happy with their new metals, with which they would forge new weapons to fight their enemies. Skov wondered if he had judged Nikja too hastily from her drinking at the Seashank. Clearly also an adept frogtalker.
The group continued on to Daring Heights, delivered the adamantine at the Hammerfall Smithy and were thankfully paid. Making his exit from the group, Skov cast his mind to the opportunities in front of him in this new land.
Most importantly, Terence the Mule escaped the mission with no harm.
