"C'mon Herman, let's go for a walk! Now just point with your eyes where you wanna go and I will take you." Melancholia snatches up Herman the Snail's jar and waits for a gesture. Herman points an eye off towards some grassy area and she skips off with him, being sure to keep the jar as steady as she can.
"So Herman, it's been a really weird night. I went to this party, but it wasn't really a party, and there was floaty bits in the beer, and I met this other Gnome who thought she was a wizard, she wasn't a wizard... and then there was the really quiet kid who was pretty good at killing things, the glowy eyes badger boy, he's a bit of a kleptomaniac I think... He stole a mug and said it was for the badger... I'm not sure. Maybe I should ask the badger? Why not just get a mug and make it glow? There was a really big dagger lady and she did some cool punches and a very floral halfling. I think must like goats a lot, she has goat horns on. Though I didn't check if they were attached maybe she's part Satyr or something? what do you think Herm?" Herman gestures to more greenery so she skips off in that direction.
"Anyway, someone asked for some help and so cause I'm so nice, dad taught me "Be nice to everyone and they might be nice back", so I went along. They were all much stronger than me but I got one of those squishy water monster thingys so I feel like I contributed. I mean you saw that bit so I'm not gonna subject you to a flashback of that scary thing." Herman points down to the market place filled with fruit and greens. Hmmm, maybe he's getting hungry? She pops a good berry into the jar for him and he starts to munch on it. She carries on skipping.
"They were nice people, but I don't think they understand Necromancy. They got all weird when I called dibs on the body and said I was gonna try to make it a zombie - maybe they've had a bad experience? I haven't even been able been able to reanimate a cat yet how could I make a zombie!?" She waits for a response and nods as Herman keeps chowing down on the good berry. "I tried telling them but they didn't trust me with it and went to a temple instead... Herman, how am I meant to learn how to bring back the dead if they don't let me practice? Gods don't always revive people you know, sometimes you pray and you pray and they just ignore you. That's why I said I am gonna learn to do it myself so next time it happens I can fix it without needing to ask a God. I'm just being practical really, Dad always said "Melancholia you can't rely on other people all the time. Some things you have to do yourself." he was right Herman. Every adventurer I meet seems to think I wanna raise an undead army and take over the world or never die or something. Sure those things would be cool but I have enough on my plate just learning how to bring someone back to life. It's a lot harder than it sounds... and bloody expensive. Do you know how much the diamonds cost? Well, you're a snail so you probably don't know how much 500 Gold is... but it's a lot. Actually... do snails understand money? Has anyone ever asked you? 2 eye stalks up if you understand money?" Hmmm both his eye stalks are up... maybe they're smarter than we thought...
Herman comes to the end of his good berry and stops pointing with his eye stalks. "Do you wanna go back to the lighthouse Herman? Two stalks up for yes one stalk up for no?" She waits for a response staring into Herman's eyes, it's not easy to get both they point in opposite directions. He hasn't moved... is that a yes or a no? Maybe she should have taken Laurel up on the offer to translate? But now she's not sure where she is really. Maybe she could ask a stranger? No that's just embarrassing she's too smart to need a strangers help. "Let's just keep walking Herman if not you can come home with me for a little while. Would you like that?" Both stalks are up... that means yes right? Eh let's go with that. She skips off back home.
