Never Work with Children a.k.a. Jacinta is now officially known for working with children.
“The task seemed like a simple one: watch four children until their parents arrive. But things went a bit sideways before we all even got there. By the time we set foot into Thea’s Refuge, the kids were long gone and an illusion sat in their place. We followed their tracks into Angelbark, all the way to a planar portal. The poor kiddos were just trying to find a way to stay together. Unfortunately, or rather fortunately, they could not remember the password to Sigil. Instead they opened a portal to a place beyond the planes, nearly letting out some sort of eldritch horror. Oh, don’t worry! It’s all taken care of and no harm was truly done.
As kids get older, they just need a little autonomy, mutual trust. These four spent their whole lives together and were suddenly being pulled apart. So, after a brief discussion, we worked out a way to keep all of the kids together. And that’s why there were several elemental beings visiting New Hillborrow. And that’s also why I’ll be needing a few more rooms until I can find a more permanent residence…”
Jacinta gave Pervinca a hopeful, slightly nervous, smile. This is more responsibility than she intended to take on, but watching Selkie and Hackniss quietly giggle over lemonade cemented how right this all felt.
“How many rooms do you need?” Pervinca asked kindly.
“Well, I’ll need a small room. Hackniss, Selkie, and Miriam (when she’s on this plane) will need a large room. And Turnus and Sorcha can have a medium room.” Jacinta began counting her fingers and then sighed. “Honestly, if you have a room that can fit like 5-6 kids, that would be stellar.” After placing a small pouch of gold in front of Pervinca, Jacinta walked over to Hackniss and Selkie.
“Alright, junior scout masters, you ready to get down to business?” The two girls grabbed their drinks and eagerly scampered over to a larger table where Veridian, Ankhet, and Greebo awaited them. Hackniss immediately sat next to Greebo, giving him a few chin scritches. Selkie sat beside her good friend Ankhet. Jacinta moved to the head of the table feeling confident as she surveyed her little crew.
“Okay, gang. Let’s discuss phase two of Jacinta’s Wilderness Camp for Rambunctious Youth.” Blank faces stared back at her. Jacinta dragged a hand across her face, attempting to chase away the exasperation she felt. “Okay, let’s talk about the Dragon Scouts.”
Cheers went up around the table, mostly from the two actual children. Jacinta settled in to her seat, smile on her face, ready for this new chapter.
