Jacinta Montajay arrived in Port Ffirst determined to explore a new continent, squash inter-planar disputes, and stop wrongdoing. And she has been able to do this alongside some truly heroic individuals (and a couple of shady characters). She left Faerun, the life of a solitary guardian of nature, to serve some greater purpose. But the longer she stayed in Kantas, the more a sense of restlessness, disquiet, lack began to grow. Jacinta felt wholly untethered. She needed to find her true purpose; she needed to plant some roots.
Meeting Hackniss, a young gnome living by herself on the streets of Daring Heights, forced Jacinta to see that wrongdoing can take many forms. Some of which cannot be vanquished through might or magic. Jacinta knew she had to help this young girl. Delivering her to an orphanage or hoping some sweet soul would become her caretaker felt inadequate. No stranger to surviving on nothing but her wits, Jacinta knew it was time to share those skills. Hackniss, and any young person tasked with taking care of themselves, just needed the right tools to thrive. And a plan was formed.
There has never been a more appropriate time for humble attire, covered in all manner of flora, that presenting your ability to survive in the wild. Arriving in town with a group of adventurers doesn't hurt either. With the Council's approval, Jacinta's Wilderness Camp for Rambunctious Youth began...yeah, the kids weren't sold on the name either. Which could be why only a handful of children attended the grand opening.
First order of business, a young hand shot in to the air.
"Can we be Dragon Scouts?" asked the sweet voice of a young Halfling.
Jacinta's brows furrowed. "That's not really-"
Her protests were soon drowned out by shouts of "Dragon scouts! Dragon scouts!" As the children began to roar and pretend to fly around. Jacinta felt her head slowly descend into her hands. This did not bode well...
Surprisingly, the name thing was just a small hiccup. And referring to the kiddos as "Dragon Scouts" was a small price to pay for a chorus of tiny voices yelling "Yes, Scout Master." Teaching the scouts how to recognize mushrooms and berries that are safe to eat, water that is safe to drink, warning signs for nearby predators, the perfect spot for a small campfire; seeing the joy on their young faces lifted a heaviness from Jacinta's heart. Although, it did momentarily stop when Hackniss slipped from a particularly high branch during a tree climbing session. Nothing a little Misty Step can't fix!
The camp made the Kids happy. Which made the parents happy and earned Jacinta an invitation to continue teaching the youngsters of New Hillborrow.
