He’d not long returned from the Shadowfell, and Arkadius’ head was still trying to process everything that had happened, and still trying to process the conversation he’d had with Sheryl in the Thirsty Dragon. He was still trying to process a lot of thoughts, including the fact that the City Watch presence on the street had… increased. Quite a lot… overnight. In fact, one had quite literally run into them as they stepped out of the Thirsty Dragon into the daylight.
“...Bit rude,” Arkadius had seen fit to comment, before turning back to the others. “This is highly suspicious. We should… find out what’s going on. It can’t be good.” The group (Sheryl, Arkadius, Markas and Taz) made their way through the city, dodging City Watch runners and other pedestrians alike, snaking their way to the City Watch HQ. The Desk Sergeant (a newbie to the force, as they discovered) bent under pressure from Arkadius (“Look, if something is going on that you need help with… Now is a REALLY good time to TELL US.” He remarked at himself how being stern and intimidating had actually managed to garner him some attention, and actually worked for his aims. He would have to… remember that.
They were pointed in the direction of someone upstairs, with a mission relating to hags. Akadius was feeling… tired from the night’s activities back “home” in Shadowfell. He wondered if this was how Sheryl felt when she returned from the Feywild, but remembered that was a more lively place, filled with positive energy and storms and clouds and rainbows and happ… he put the thoughts to one side, and concentrated on the day at hand. Hags, bounty, attacks… mission. He patted his pocket, Ida squeaking softly to let him know she was there, and awake. She hadn’t been for most of the night, somehow.
The mission was to head to the Frog Bog, and find the hags, and ‘deal with them’. Fair enough, thought Arkadius, Not easy but need’s must.
They settled on their approach, Serpentine and Sheryl atop Astra, Arkadius on Sacha, Taz on a Warhorse of his own, and… Markas would be Markas. A little while into the Bog, they discovered a Bullywug. It would be that bullywug that would lead them to where they needed to be, a village full of bullywugs led by the hags, apparently prospering under their protection.
They entered the village, using the guidance of the bullywug they found fishing, and were approached by others, spears and weapons in hand. A discussion ensued, which Arkadius did not pay attention to, and Ida hopped out of his pocket, off exploring the nearby huts. He saw… things in the huts, inprisoned and in chains. They mentally resolved to sort that out, once the hags were dealt with.
It wouldn’t take long for the hags to show themselves. A solitary bullywug led them into a hut, alone, which promptly dropped it’s disguise to reveal a hag. Arkadius admired this skill, he hadn’t suspected a thing. There was more conversation, and he wasn’t paying proper attention. It was only when chatter moved to the protection of Port Ffirst that he was really paying attention, barely. And even then…
Sudden pain in his back, his wings being pulled as he considered viciously. ”OW. What the bloody hell was that for?!” He said, glaring down at Sheryl, who was visibly not paying attention to him. She’d apparently managed to succeed with whatever goal her pain had intended, and he made a note to discuss this with her later. There were better ways to get a message through to him.
At this point, things… progressed. Everything seemed to flash before his very eyes as conversation stopped, and fighting ensued. Spells and counterspells flew as more hags made their appearance, and the main hag seemed smug about them being at an impasse, when Taz attacked her viciously. A fireball flew not long after that from the wand in Arkadius’ hand.
Two of the hags were destroyed by the group, but the third seemed to give her life to contact… someone. This worried Arkadius, with everything that was transpiring, and this was a problem that needed resolving.
”Oh, by the way. The figures chained up in the hut? They were devils.” Serpentine admitted, after the fighting. Arkadius was so annoyed and angry that it took so long for this knowledge to come out that he had immediately stormed off, leaving the group behind, he wanted to be alone with his thoughts to calm down. Only two people could calm him down when he was this angry, Sheryl and Ida. And Sheryl… well, she’d hurt him that day, and Ida was busy sniffing around in the hut trying to find more clues. Arkadius leaned on a tree, eyes closed and thoughts returning to the night before.
The Raven Queen. Could She be some kind of answer to everything that has been bothering me as of late? Really? After all this… kerfuffle, with Swan and…
That’s not important right now. Everything is going wrong in K’ul Goran, The Raven Queen and Shadowfell can wait.
