Subject: Report on the growing Bullywug threat from the Frog Bog
From: Kyra Marsh, Paladin of Tyr, Port Ffirst
To: The Adventurer Population of Port Ffirst
Dated: 8th of Mirtul, 1497
Present during Investigation: Csil Leomar (Cleric of Selûne), Leek Nackle (Cleric), Rosemoon the Quiet (Uncertified Wizard), Ellywick (Ranger), Kyra Marsh, Ankhet (Law Enforcement, Port Ffirst), Caex (Citizen of the Frogbog)
Recent investigations into the fever spreading amongst the Levinson Farm workers has lead to the discovery of a threat of incursion by the Bullywug kingdom into the Dawnlands from the Frogbog. During this investigation a coup d'état was launched by a faction within the Bullywug population (see addendum).
Upon inspection of the afflicted the fever was determined to be Flesh Rot (details attached). Questioning of farm workers revealed recent skirmishes between "large frogs" living in the swamp and the Dawnlander population along the western edge of the farms. Investigation of the skirmish location revealed totemic artefacts thought to be the source of the disease. These have since been destroyed, though further instances of these totems cannot be ruled out as the Bullywug threat remains.
During interviews with citizens of the Frogbog it was determined that the disease was not impacting the Bullywug population. Upon this discovery the investigative team enlisted the help of Caex (a citizen of the swamp) to find the Bullywugs and attempt to negotiate an end to hostilities.
After locating the Bullywug population it was determined that the Bullywugs, under the sway of an expansionist monarch (profile attached), were the cause of the spread of Flesh Rot within the farmlands population. (Details of Bullywug grievances attached)
Negotiations to end further hostilities lead to a ritual sporting event (see 'The Pentathlon' for details) to determine which side would set the terms of the truce. Neither side was able to gain the upper-hand in this event, leading to the breakdown of the peace-talks and the assassination of the Bullywug Monarch.
The current situation with the Bullywugs is unclear. Whether the coup leads to a schism amongst the Bullywugs or the elevation of a new Monarch is also unclear. The ease of further negotiations with the Bullywugs rests on the outcome of the civil war, the newly rising faction may prove more open to peaceful terms.
The disease within the farmlands has been managed and quashed after investigators returned from the Frogbog.
======
Addendum: Flesh Rot
The disease affecting the Dawnlander population of the Port Ffirst farmlands bordering the Frogbog was determined to be Flesh Rot.
Flesh Rot is a magically sourced disease that is not contagious. It is contracted via contact with a magical source of the disease such as a totem or a cleric/druid practicing necromantic magics.
Without the application of magical treatment death will occur within 7 days.
======
Addendum: Bullywug Grievances and Demands
Expansion of the farmland bordering the Frogbog has lead to the annexation of Bullywug territory. The Bullywug population has demanded the return of their ancestral homelands and the expulsion of all non-Bullywugs from returned territories.
Along with the above demands the Bullywugs have laid claim to all non-swamplands within the Dawnlands for the purpose of expanding the swamp.
======
Addendum: King Kublabrab Profile
Status: Deceased
Cause of Death: Assassination
Title: His Moistness
King Kublabrab was a vain and expansionist leader who sat atop the Bullywug's toad throne during the opening of the Dawnlander/Bullywug hostilities in 1497. After refusing a truce with the Dawnlands he was assassinated by a rival Bullywug faction.
======
Addendum: Coup d'état and potential new monarch
During a speech to the Bullywug population espousing war with the Dawnlands and the expansion of the swamp by King Kublabrab, a rival faction of Bullywugs launched an assassination attempt against the reigning monarch. This attempt was successful and plunged the Bullywugs into chaos.
The outcome of the coup is unclear and who leads the Bullywugs is unknown. As the assassination of the King took place during the proposed invading the Dawnlands it is presumed to be a faction open to a peaceful resolution.
======
Addendum: The Pentathlon
The Pentathlon is a six event ritual performed by the Bullywugs to determine the course of action during contested decision-making. Each event is a contest between a champion for each side of the debate. Assistance, magical or otherwise, is strictly prohibited.
The most recent instance of the Pentathlon was during the Dawnlander/Bullywug peace-talks of 1497. Unusually this six event sport lead to a draw, with each side winning three events.
The six events within the Pentathlon are:
Muck-Wrestling
A feat of strength, the winner determined by the first to pin the opponent three times.
During the Dawnlander/Bullywug peace-talks Leek Nackle faced off against a red Bullywug who would go on to assassinate King Kublabrab. Leek proved victorious over the Bullywug after suplexing the frog repeatedly.
Swamp Lore
A formal debate to determine the most knowledgable about Swamp Lore.
During the Dawnlander/Bullywug peace-talks Kyra Marsh faced off against a scholarly Bullywug who posited the North to West flight of swamp birds was key to the development of the Frogbog. Kyra Marsh was unable to respond to this during the debate and was defeated.
Song of the Everwet
A musical contest to determine the most crowd pleasing artist. Winner determined by the crowd.
Note for future diplomats: The Bullywugs like a little danger during their concerts. Threatening to assault your opponent may be a popular display, though following through on these threats may be discouraged.
The Bauble in the Leaf-Pile
A challenge to determine who can locate a glowing bauble within a pile of swamp leaves. The first to locate their bauble wins.
During the Dawnlander/Bullywug peace-talks Ankhet was able to locate her bauble first.
Bog Hunt
The Bog Hunt is a rush to catch a small flighted bird from the swamp. One bird is released into the bog and the two contestants must use stealth and guile to be the first to capture the bird. As the bird is most succulent when fresh it is preferable to capture the bird alive.
Bird species: Undetermined.
During the Dawnlander/Bullywug peace-talks the Bullywug competitor snatched victory away from Ellywick moments before her claws could fasten around it.
Blood Trial
The Blood Trial is a contest to determine which of two combatants will be the first to draw blood.
During the Dawnlander/Bullywug peace-talks a misunderstanding over the rules of the Blood Trial lead to Csil Leomar forfeiting the contest as he drew his own blood thinking it was a blood sacrifice.

Recommended course of action
- Increase guard presence along the Frogbog borders.
- Begin observation of Bullywug activities and attempt diplomatic contact once internal hostilities end and a new leader has emerged.
- Encourage temples within Port Ffirst and Daring Heights to station a cleric within the farmlands surrounding the Frogbog to ward off reappearances of the Flesh Rot.
