A Stone's Throw (6/5/20)

Kantas Report #013



Objective:

Assist Eloise Danforth in an academic expedition to site in Sunset Spines mountains west of here.

Retrieve special orb artefact from aforementioned site.

Igrainne, bow user not impressed by sunlight

Augustine, provider of wine and nature support

Torvold, a sizeable fighter of few words

Hadvar, magical musician obsessed with the state of his pantaloons

Details:

Ms. Danforth had acquired a deep blue stone orb that when exposed to sunlight gave the ability to track other sites in Kantas similar to the one it had originally been retrieved from.

The orb and site locations are also being pursued by a group of fish folk and blue elves.

Ms. Danforth was showing signs of continued distress from this previous expedition, but seemed determined to go with a bottle of wine nearby.

Journey to mountains progressed without incident, made camp at foot of mountains that evening. Plan was to approach site early next day.

Entire team experienced weird dream sequences, with different stories in each, but all had shared occurences of golden items and deep ocean creatures.

Continued with plan next day, on approach see circular stone entrance to site already breached, with dead fish folk guards on ground outside.

Aggy, with the assistance of Hadvar’s magic, communicated with the deceased soul of one of these folk. Its soul said it was killed by the ‘Sun’ and that they were there to find the stone orb because the ‘Deep One demanded it’. Further questioning about this Deep One only revealed that this entity is ‘All’.

Igrainne, Cadfan and myself went into the site to scout, finding more fish folk corpses created from the many different activated traps in the entrance hallway. Escorted rest of team inside to avoid traps.

End of the hallway opened into a large circular domed room containing animated suits of armor, more fish folk corpses, and a large creature made entirely of rock.

Other side of circular room had pedestal made of gold, likely position for orb, but could not verify its location at the time.

Team spotted by Rock target, team engages with it and animated armor targets.

During fight, as Rock target took progressively more damage, cracks appeared on its form that glowed with a golden light that seemed to originate from within it. Target also became faster and more powerful as this golden light overcame its form.

All targets eliminated.

Orb not on pedestal, in room, or contained with the eliminated remains of Rock target.

Flecks or blue/red blood and swampy water found around pedestal, orb likely taken by fish folk before we engaged with targets in room.

With dangers eliminated Ms. Danforth entered room and began her observations. Mostly interested in carvings on walls depicting battle scenes between angels, devils and aberrations.

Once Ms. Danforth happy with findings we journeyed back to Daring Heights without incident.



Conclusion:

Expedition successful in finding site that Ms. Danforth was tracking.

Orb artifact not retrieved, though one other apparently remains undiscovered.

Partial success.
