Well, today was mixed. I got to see a beautiful underground city and it’s assortment of inhabitants. I was amazed by what the Shunned had created in the Crystal Spire, the way they had adapted to and respected the underground landscape.
But then there was the issue of one of their members, Vieranna, sowing fake fears and doubts into the minds of the people there while also undermining their efforts to make peace with those on the surface. The Vanguard’s influence has spread far, even to the Oracle of the Shunned. Then she launches a full on assault on us when we discover her true intentions!! Luckily everyone pushed through and rose against her very well. Pi went down though, Trav also getting really close. But even after all the violence, the Shunned were still lovely in sharing their home and what information they could with us.
Pi made great friends with Grunthal, the curious goblin who transported us there. Baine got to brush up on his Orcish a bit. Varis looked on slightly better form i.e. back to his scary stoic self.
I found a brand new flower there! Native to the Spires, it’s a deep purple orchid that’s half crystal. I think it will be beautiful when it reflects the evening sun. I’ll make sure to plant it next to the underdark spider blooms Igrainne got me.
The next page of writing in the journal entry is a long comparison and description of the growing conditions between the two flowers, culminating in the general conclusion that both are fantastic representations of niche underground environments.
I’m not sure what the Vanguard’s true goal is here, apart from causing chaos and upheaval, but then I don’t think anyone does. Is there a link we’re missing, maybe? It does feel like we’ll find out the end result soon, and that has me worried. Deeply.
Much Love,
BB
