Kantas Report #012
Objective:
Investigate and gather evidence on Vanguard activity in Maray by request of The Duchess and Girelle.

Cadfan, loot obsessed stealthist
Ziarae, neon lady with the goat guide
Igrainne, stealthy and critical of others bow technique
Kalta, gentle big muscle half-orc lady
(Temp) Kassandra, large crossbow wielding minotaur of the Errant Guard
Details:
Met with The Duchess, Girelle and Senator Rhodes in Z’ut Goran. Their suspicions were focused on intel gathered about a large shipment of arcane components to a natural remedy shop called the Faraway Meadow. Contents were odd considering the usual stock sold there.
Tasked with going there and extracting evidence as well as eliminate Vanguard threats (as long as this didn’t jeopardise first part of task).
Arrival and initial inspection of shop front showed no suspicious items or individuals present. Shop and it’s associated staff seemed far too cute to be involved in nefarious cult activities.
Ziarae, Augustine and Kalta went inside the shop to distract and assess staff further. Myself, Cadfan and Igrainne went round back to locate the suspicious stock or any hidden cult activity.
Cart for transport of suspicious goods located, and building successfully entered unknowingly to occupants.
Stealth team compromised by failed entry through internal locked door, discovered by Kassandra of the Errant Guard.
After successfully convincing the shop owners to not panic at our presence, and retrieving the shop front team without compromising their cover, Kassandra took us outside to inform on why she was here and her objectives.
She had been working in the shop as a front to investigate the cult activity operating underground. The shop owners innocents unaware of this cult activity, the Vanguard had been using the wholesomeness of the shop to avert suspicion. Kassandra’s uncertainty in the cult’s existence and scope of operation had been eliminated when they tried to directly recruit her. An offer she admitted to considering, but did turn down in favour of crushing them independently from her duties to the Errant Guard.
Kassandra also informed of the hidden entrance to the Vanguard’s underground area, she had not delved in herself due to not wanting to be overwhelmed by the enemy.
Team went in prepared to surprise Vanguard members, eliminate all bar one as evidence and for questioning.
Encountered 3 Vanguard members, several fiendish pink blobs, a spikey devil and an invisible magic hound. Several targets acquired.
Team was contained within a bottleneck, this limited us and made us vulnerable to certain large area attacks. Team pushed through.
1 cultist target was stabilised and kept alive, 1 escaped through magical means. All remaining targets eliminated.
Remaining cultist was questioned. Easily gave us location of letter with proof of Vanguard’s involvement, as well as incriminating evidence on local senator’s involvement (Senator Breakstaff).
Could not give conclusive information on exact archdevil being worshipped by the Vanguard. They dismissed Asmodeous’ involvement, it needed to be an archdevil that was more crafty. Their information limited due to Vanguard’s clever compartmentalisation of select information amongst its members.
Cultist was handed over to authorities in Daring Heights.
Kassandra still an ally, one invested in ruthlessly eliminating the Vanguard.
Conclusion:
Evidence of Vanguard activity acquired, further evidence linked to Senator Breakstaff also acquired.
Vanguard sect under the Faraway Meadow eliminated.
More steps must be taken to be ahead of the Vanguard’s movements. Feels like we’re on the back foot in these current endeavors.
