Kantas Report #010
Objective:
Aid Ren to investigate possible cult activity at the Abbey, a place located south of Port FFirst, probably near the coastline.
Team:
Myself
Ren, speedy individual leading investigation
Igrainne, dark-elf bow user
Laurel, goat man still laden with healing potions
G’Lorth, golden frog man still carried in a bathtub
Ziarae, neon pink glowing one now accompanied by a well dressed imp
Details:
Team gathered outside Mappins shop in Port FFirst.
Retrieved a rudimentary map of possible Abbey location, area not well mapped. Shop owner asked us for updated details of area to be noted.
Team moved south from Port Ffirst along coastal road, near edge of Feythorn Forest.
After approx 4 and half miles took a sharp left East at fork in road to approach scouted Abbey tower.
Forest area noticeable quiet and absent of wildlife.
Abbey spotted, team approached in a stealthy formation.
On approach to graveyard section of Abbey spotted movement.
Human child spotted.
Laurel approached with friendly attempt at information gathering. Success.
Child (Kurtis) informed us that they were on the premises to pay respects to their recently deceased friend Justin Kendry. According to his report Kurtis’ friend died after entering the Abbey proper to summon ‘something’.
Left child outside and entered derelict building of the Abbey.
Initial inspection revealed four humanoid stone statues recessed into the side walls, each one missing a different limb, a dias at far end of ‘temple’ room, and the remains of a summoning ritual in the centre.
Note, the main temple room was devoid of any religious symbolism or religious detailing.
Summoning ritual area had small charred bones, inverted insect corpses, and residues of sulphur.
Laurel detected magic aura around all the statues. Deduction from team resulted in holding our own limbs up to the broken stumps of the statues. Success.
Riddle on floor of centre area revealed. In Abyssal. G’Lorth deducted answer was Egg.
Speaking answer revealed stone stairway to lower level.
Lower level had same layout as upper level, including statues. These metal statues were humanoids with snake heads. Dias area also included large double door set into wall.
Inspection of door revealed inscription in Yuan-Ti above it, Igrainne copied transcription down and spoke out phrase.
Statues then became fully automated and attacked the team. New targets acquired.
Targets had powerful strikes, but slow movement.
Team successfully eliminated all targets.
Door slid open and stone tunnel revealed. Stepping into tunnel caused person to disappear from view.
Team continued through tunnel, led into large egg-shaped room with 1-2ft of water on floor.
Egg room had walls with veins of light and large purple/red portal on other side. Cloaked individual with oar standing in front of portal.
Communication was attempted, resulted in individual calling for aid in Infernal through portal. New target acquired.
Ren strategically cast silencing spell on portal area. Target successfully prevented from calling for aid.
Team converged on target. Target successfully eliminated. Note, target had some control over water in room.
Investigating room revealed old symbols on floor. These formed crude and primitive map of Kantas, with four marked points on it with a line that connected them all.
1 was due East of Abbey location, in ocean.
1 was Abbey location, on coastline.
1 was South of Abbey location, in Feythorn.
1 was West of Abbey, in Sunset Spine.
Further investigation of walls revealed tunnel mouth had snake mouth motif carved into it.
Team exited egg room and lower level.
Tower area of Abbey investigated. Many rooms found, including lookout room at top with panoramic views of ocean.
Old diary and older paper sheath found.
Paper sheath written in Celestial, old diary in mix of Common, Abyssal, and Infernal.
Paper sheath - Abbey actually called Abeyance. Originally built to to monitor activity of Yuan-Ti tribe residing on volcanic island ~30 miles out to sea. Yuan-Ti instigated many attacks on the area.
Old diary - Devotees of the Culf of the Lady worshipped her in secret. Mentions names Kendry, Hoglit, Keyhorns. Members fell out of favour with the Lady and actively hunted by fiends of First Realm. More recent entries say members now also hunted by Lady’s troops for breaking contract, so members now must flee and scatter.
Team escorted child back to home in Port Ffirst via goat. Map successfully updated and returned.
Conclusion:
Cult/Secret Organisation successfully investigated. Can conclude that it has been dissolved, must be vigilant for any who want to revive it.
Information gathered on an ancient population of Yuan-Ti in Kantas.
Laurel and Ren will pass on portal information to planar mage Aurelia for portal closure.
