The stocks in Portal Plaza hadn’t been used for a long time. No-one had committed - or been caught committing - a crime in recent times that warranted the punishment. Nowadays, they were used as a designated place for friends to meet up before heading off on nights out. Indeed, the phrase “let's take stock” is common Darite slang for “meet at the stocks”.

So it was that word spread like wildfire when members of the city watch were seen dusting off the apparatus and testing and oiling the mechanisms….

The crowds gathered early. It was the end of the week, so less-than-fresh fruit and vegetables were in good supply. And for those who couldn’t get their hands on any, ample ammunition was provided.

Cadfan, Yak Yak (Wolfsbane312), ziarae, and Alenea Hanali endured half an hour of being pelted by laughing townsfolk before the sergeant overseeing the punishment signalled for his squad to release them, cleaning them off with buckets of water, and giving them a kick up the arse as a warning to “keep your crime shit out of this town.”

All apart from Cadfan, who was left there to languish for a further half an hour before being released, cleaned, and sent on his way.
