“If it’s not gone in two weeks I guess I’ll have to go find Augustine or something, she might be able to get rid of it. Or it might be like the beard. That bloomin’ beard”
BB continues to prod and pull at the sheeps wool that’s currently growing out her ears as she’s sat at one of the mismatched wooden chairs in the flower field. The entrance to the tent lies open, allowing the rays of sunshine to warm its interior.
Blue sits in the grass staring up at BB, head tilted to the side, communicating something. BB moves her hands down from her ears to get a closer look at them. The palms are scarred and discoloured as they always have been, but the skin on the back seems to be a slightly brighter shade of pale blue than before.
“Yeah I think my skin changed too. Not sure if that can go back either. It’s not too different so I don’t mind as much. This though...”
She pulls a chunk of sheeps wool out of her ear, holding it out towards Blue. The missing chunk instantly grows back.
“This I do mind.”
BB sighs and leans back in the chair, looking to the birds that fly through the sky closer to the village.
“Guess I should write it all down. I felt like I messed up again. Can’t learn from my mistakes if I forget them.”
Standing up she steps inside the tent to scoop up her worn leather journal from its usual spot, also checking that Phalange is still inside. Back outside she moves one of the wooden stools close to her chair to use as a table for the pen ink, and starts writing while sitting in the chair once again.
This time I picked up a request from a bullywug called Quegflumf. It seemed urgent so I waited at the main path between Daring and Port Ffirst as asked rather than go into town for the others.
There I met the familiar faces of Bones, Taz, and Ghesh. As well as a tortle named Onno, he seemed quite obsessed with Umberlee and his hammer? Tried to instantly convert poor Quegflumf to Umberlee, which was definitely not what he asked us there for. Then came along G’Lorth, with his bathtub, and staff, and fancy words, and obsession with gold. At least he and Taz seemed to bond over the gold part.
Quegflumf was quite scared by all this but managed to get out that their issue was that a group of trolls were strangely driven to go North and follow the group of bullywugs for some reason. He would take us to his camp in the swamp where we could talk to the others about what was going on.
The swamp was sadly lacking in flowers this time of year. Or maybe they were just hiding from me.
What I did find was a rather large group of snakes that followed me around.
They didn’t attack or act mean. They just watched me constantly, and listened to everything I said. They were kinda cute if you got past the staring.
So, back to bullywugs. We eventually approached their camp only to find it ransacked and flamed. The trolls had got to them first. But Quegflumf said that some people were missing, which was good in a way, if they were kidnapped that meant there was a chance they were still alive.
We strode off into the woods, following the troll’s tracks, looking for their camp.
We found the corpse of another one of Quefflumf’s friends, though he seemed relieved in some small way. There was obviously someone he was desperate to still be alive.
Once we found the troll camp it was unsurprisingly filled with bullywug prisoners. And two troll guards.
I asked the snake entourage that was still following me to stay behind and look after Phalange, they seemed like a pretty capable group of snakes. Nodding their heads in understanding and everything!
Before the others could go charging in I proposed we try and approach in a peaceful way, just talk to them and find out exactly why they had such a vendetta against these bullywugs. Luckily Ghesh and Onno also had magic ways of looking like trolls, so we approached with the intent of me asking some questions. The others waited in the surrounding trees.
Unfortunately, we didn’t really account for traps. More specifically, big trenches in the mud. In the darkness we had no idea they were there, and fell right in like a bunch of stumps.
I still tried to talk to the trolls from the trench, but they weren’t having it, and immediately started throwing boulders at us.
It was at this point that everything went a bit bad.
Turns out three of the bullywugs in the cages were actually hags, who chose this moment to join the fight against us. Guess we found out why the trolls were hunting down the bullywugs so intently.
One of the hags spun round in her cage and stared me dead in the eyes, and I… I couldn’t move, couldn’t even communicate with Blue. I was stuck to the spot as I could feel my friends blasting magic and swinging weapons around me.
At one point a lighting bolt blasted right past me, singeing the hair on my arms. And yet I still couldn’t move.
Eventually Taz (I think, I couldn’t really look around) lifted me out of the trench and away from the fray. From this new frozen position I could see that Bones and G’Lorth had done the sensible thing of staying in the tree line.
Then Bones disappeared from sight? Didn’t know he had that magic…
Finally! I was freed from the hag’s magic to get a proper look around. To see Ghesh and Onno separated amongst the cages, taking on the trolls and hags face to face. And to see Taz was down out cold right next to a troll.
I thought I could help by taking out the troll next to him, and then go in to get him back up. But I didn’t account for the acidic troll goop, the bloomin’ troll goop! It went everywhere. I should have known better.
By the time I managed to get there, Onno had also gone down and Taz was proper gone. Dead.
At least we managed to take down all the hags and trolls, with a majority of the bullywugs not caught in the crossfire. Quegflumf was relieved.
We got Taz’s body out of there in one piece, the others suggested we take him to Umberlee’s temple for resurrection. He did help them a lot in the past with those poor sisters. It was probably a bit selfish of me, but I couldn’t willingly set foot in that temple again because of all that.
I gave the others some money to help, and left them to it. I know Ghesh and Bones will look after him. Taz might have been a bit on the mean side, but he still deserves the opportunity for a second chance.
The snakes sadly didn’t follow me all the way home, could have been great gardening companions. They all stopped at the edge of the swamp, not wanting to leave their home (I swear there was even more of them by this point).
I need more potions, and teleportation magic.
Much Love,
BB
