Chapter III: We 'Tryad' not to Drown
The last couple of weeks were surprisingly productive. I decided to opt out of one adventure to solidify my connections to the town alchemist. I feel like I’m making progress, he trusts my skills now and asks me to help him in practically all his tasks.
Nonetheless, I keep feeling the urge to go out into the wilderness and expand my horizons. I arrived slightly late to the Three Headed Ettin on the day we were meant to set out, luckily enough my group was still there. They insisted in stopping by Granny’s shack before we set out on our mission to further investigate the Ominous Grove of trees by the lake eastbound from Daring Heights.
I still didn’t have the pleasure of meeting this… Granny character and dear Selûne was I better that way. There is something very shady swirling around that shack, I will try to avoid it in the future while I can but something tells me sooner or later I will have to go there to request one of her various services.
After she performed some kind of magical ritual on Manaia’s dog and gave Tugark the ability to communicate with his pet air elemental, named Whoosh, which by the way, is a very unimaginative name… what can I say, Barbarians!
But I’m getting ahead of myself here, my team this time was full of new faces, there were 7 of us and 4 of them were new to me. Leocanto and Grandfather were there; But also Tugark, a beast of an Half-Orc, slightly intimidating; Dorian, a Tiefling Sorcerer who’s Infernal bloodline is way more prominent than it ever should; Manaia, a fiery Gnome Druid, way more intimidating than her stature would lead you to believe; and Grimes, apparently a Paladin of Tyr although his godly connection seem to have abandoned him long ago judging by his lack of poise and… armor…
Anyway, I have now learned not to judge an adventurer by looks only.
“Let’s see how this goes” – I thought to myself.
We set path eastbound and travel for the better part of a day until we reached a beautiful valley, throbbing with flora, densely packed majestic trees, huge purple and blue flowers everywhere - can’t stop thinking this valley must be Feytouched in some way - As we advance through this marvelous scenario, we encounter a small clearing at the bottom of the valley where a curious figure was sitting on a tree stump. He displayed elven features of some sorts, pale skin, well ornamented plate armor and a translucent scimitar by his side. He identified himself as being Eladrin, further confirming the theory that this place must be feytouched.
As we informed him of the path we were set to take, he gave us some fey seeds alongside with the task of reforesting the Grove once we terminated the evil that resided inside.
We pressed on forward and camped in a small clearing before reaching our destination. Overnight, a scared and frightful beautiful dryad came to me and further clarified what was happening inside the Ominous Grove. An evil corrupted dryad, filled with hatred and lust for power, named Syvax, had corrupted the animals and killed many of the dryads living in this part of the forest. As a strategist I believe myself to be, I asked the dryad, named Strawnid, to help us in this endeavour and lure away some of the wild animals and servants of the maddened dryad while we would put an end to him for good and return peace to these parts of the forest.
The next morning, after careful planning, we set our plan into motion. Little did I know that Tugark thought too much of his air elemental pet which led to a key part of the plan to be ruined when he failed to deliver the big "gust of wind" he promised us. Nonetheless, the dryads did their part and we got in the grove after dispatching a pack of maddened wolves and setting a portion of the grove ablaze.
We then found a hole in the ground leading to an underground cavern filled with roots and vines. Manaia and I stayed out while the rest of the party went in to investigate. I was constantly on the lookout for the slightest sign of confrontation for I feared this was Syvax’s lair. My assumption was proven correct when roots dragged a huge boulder through the ground rapidly covering the cave entrance. At the same time I heard a loud rushing noise from inside the cavern.
“Oh NO! The lake is flooding the cave, they will drown.” – I shouted.
Immediately after, I rushed to the lake and swam while being dragged by the current flowing inside the cave. As I suspected, Syvax was behind this and was currently engaged in combat with the rest of my fellow adventurers.
After an intense battle underwater, as Manaia finally managed to remove the boulder from the tunnel entrance, Tugark valiantly stroke down the corrupted dryad. It was a tough fight but with some luck and divine protection we were able to survive to fight another day.
As a final touch we managed to distribute some seeds, given to us by the mysterious Eladrin, throughout the grove. After thanking Strawnid for her help and commending her for her brave acts, we began our journey back to Daring Heights.
Next week will hold another adventure, I would assume it would be an easy one by the specifications given to me, but in Daring Heights…. Nothing seems to be simple.
It is all for now,
