Daring Heights is the portal to the new World; quite literally so, as the teleportation circle from Faerun leads to this budding frontier town, attracting adventurers from far and wide, who seek to find their fortune. Two such figures march down the cobbled streets now - one strutting ahead, sure of foot and purpose; one lagging slightly behind, burdened with an immense backpack.
"Can you smell it, Henry? The fresh air of a new land, full of adventure? Just beckoning to be discovered!"
"Yes, sir."
"I knew we came to the right place! The journey was worth it. Now, if we could just find our accommodation…"
"As you say, sir."
The first figure - well dressed and portly - peeks down a dark alleyway, the slightest whiff of doubt polluting the air of utter certainty. Three ruffians mill about, casting leering glances at the new arrivals.
"I believe it is down that way. Very rustic. Yes, this seems like the right way...?"
The second figure, identified as Henry, sets down the monstrosity of a backpack with a heavy thud.
"Shall I inquire with these local gentlemen? I am sure they will prove amenable to provide directions."
He walks down the dark alley, introduces himself with a curt bow and exchanges pleasantries that are not recipocated; which soon devolve into shouting and a quick succession of fists, elbows and kicks applied to soft spots and pressure points, leaving the ruffians crumpled in the dirt. Henry returns, brushing some specks off his waistcoat.
"They were most helpful, sir. The Three-Headed Ettin is apparently the premier establishment for adventurers in this town, and just down the road. With your permission, I shall hurry ahead and announce your arrival."
-----
At the Ettin, a man dressed in the formal garb of a manservant holds open the door for a well dressed, if slightly stocky nobleman, then thrice stomps his foot on the ground for attention.
"Ladies and Gentlemen - his lordship, Baron Siegfried von Hagen! Famed adventurer and duelist of Cormyr! Peer of the realm and royale companion!"
The taproom fails to respond with appreciative murmur, let alone applause.
After an awkward moment, when everyone returns to their tankards and conversations, the manservant heads over to the bar, where Coll the innkeep observes the new arrivals with a bemused smile.
"Good evening. We require your finest room, as well as a second, modest accomodation for the foreseeable future."
Coll nods sagely, while continuing to clean a tankard.
"Certainly. And who, may I ask, do we have the pleasure of hosting?"
The manservant sighs.
"Baron Siegfried and his Butler."
