"Dear Thea,
I’m so sorry. I know I said I’d write you. I know I didn’t. I hope you didn’t worry. I clearly didn’t die.
If I had someone would have written to you. I’ve left a note with the Order about what to do and who to tell if I don’t make it back one day.
No news is good news.
It’s almost funny - I didn’t write because I didn’t want to worry you. We went to hell. It was awful and I came out a little bit different than how I went in, I think. Then we went to a place really fucking far away, called Wa. Paw went missing a while back so we had to go get her.
And now there’s a war. Not in Kantas but in a place not too far off, about two days by ship, I've told you about this before. It’s called Kul Goran and Daring Heights has an alliance with them. They’ve been hiring us adventuring types to help and we’ve done the best we could but it’s getting tougher and tougher.
It’s a mess, you see. Not plain and simple, two sides fighting ‘cos a dickhead Lord wanted more power or land or something, no.
Kul Goran is fighting actual giants of all kinds, flamey ones, icy ones, windy ones, you name the flavor and they’ve got it.
Someone is behind all of it, giving the orders, but we don’t know who.
On top of that a group of elves have joined in, fighting both sides but not killing anyone, just knocking them out and leaving them - stopping the fighting I guess?
On top of that a group called the Shunned who are like outlaws or something and lived there before the Kul Gorani are trying to claim some shit back in the middle of all this chaos.
There could even be more - some fiends have been knocking about? But it’s war time. Useful information is hard to come by sometimes.
The latest scrap I was in was in ZaSuul, that fancy place I went to long ago.
They sent word to Port Ffirst and Daring that the temple was under attack and that they needed help.
Bogg was there.
He’s really angry with me for getting him out of the sewers and then fucking off and not telling him anything (just like I did with you) but it was really nice to see him anyway.
We teleported to ZaSuul and there was one hell of a storm brewing. These cloud giants were attacking and there wasn’t anything to do besides join the fight. Giants are usually pretty simple in a fight - tough to kill but easy to figure out where they were going at least. These one weren’t, they could turn into mist and fly about and move really fast. I beat the shit out of one of them but he kept turning into mist halfway through my swings so I didn’t hurt him as much as I should have.
They were wearing these white and blue masks with a red squiggle on it; Gegrun and Leek figured out after that it probably meant they were extra dangerous or something. Like, elite soldiers.
It was pretty wild. Fey turned into a giant lizard-looking thing that walked on two legs - its arms were too short to do fucking anything with but it could bite something fierce. I rode it for a little bit, that was fun.
In the end though, we failed. I was so close to taking out one of them but they grabbed a priest and flew off. Before they left we saw some sort of building in the clouds? Like.. it was made of clouds? I don’t know. The priest that didn’t die, Prime Speaker Illuria, told us this was probably just the first wave. They came for the healers and destroyed the cities defences. ZaSuul is ripe for the picking and something bigger than a storm is on the horizon.
We can all feel it. It’s coming. A war.
Varis is calling in the order. They’ll be in the thick of it, doing their best to protect the ones that can’t protect themselves. It’s what they do.
And I’m going to be there with them. Oaths or not, the order is my home. My family.
And protecting people that can’t protect themselves is what I want to be doing.
It’s what you would do.
I’ll write when it’s over.
Remember - No News Is Good News.
All my love, always.
