The Three Headed Ettin
Daring
Kantas
29th November
My Dear and Respected Father,
I scarcely dare to set pen to parchment for this my latest letter to you and my venerated Mother. (Has she returned from the Troll Killing expedition? Please give her my love and also remind me to all fifteen of my brothers). I must warn you first that here in the place they call Kantas, things are very different than they are at home and I find myself having dealings with all sorts just to keep the Beholder from the door! In Icewind we wouldn't give a goblin the time of day, save to cleave his head with any axe that came to hand, but this week I have found myself and my friends HIRED by a goblin! My defence for having any dealings with this vile creature, who went by the name of 'Nox' is that he was paying well. Very well indeed.
Nox hired myself, two Barbarians of my acquaintance, Salazar and Torak (they're handy with a great sword but don't provoke em - they're bad when crossed) and our sorcerer colleague Kalk. They're all good in a tight spot. The job was to travel to some mines a couple of days away and retrieve some chest that was significant in some manner. Unbelievably the goblins were engaged in working these mines, but as is always the case with these folk, something went wrong and now the mine is infested with undead.
Clearing operations have since been conducted by some doughty dwarves (it is always us who clear up the goblin mess is it not) but both the journey and the subsequent efforts to retrieve the blessed chest were quite taxing. The place is still teeming with the cursed undead and Torak was quite badly hurt. Still, my healing skills came in handy and we were able to secure the damn thing. Inside was an enormous gnoll head. Only Moradin himself knows why this dreadful relic was of any use or interest to the goblin Nox but these people have their own perverted reasons for things. Back in Daring I fair itched to administer stern correction to the little oik but he paid up so I let him off. This time.
On a more general note I was stunned to hear Dwarves here in Kantas had PAID goblins for a mine! Perhaps their battle axes are blunt through lack of use. And I'm afraid the tone here in Daring Heights has deteriorated sharply since the installation of some cursed teleport magic. Would you believe I saw a Kobold - well dressed mark you - striding around town in broad daylight! But here on the Expanse we dwarves are forced to deal with all sorts I'm afraid.
Best, Your Son, Doom Bah.
