Tugark is sitting at a table across from Fjell, who is listening intently to Tugark's retelling of his most recent outing. "There's a lot more going on in Kantas than Daring Heights would let us believe, my big blue friend. Many foreign interests in this region trying to take hold of what they can." He recounts to Fjell his short time spent under Ambar's employ before returning to assist with the Twilight Battle.
"Well, now I suspect there are even more players in this game. We met with quite an interesting character down at Merrick's farm, who had posted a job in the Ettin. He wanted us to go south to a scouted cave, clear out some reported trolls and to bring back a mineral sample from within the depths of the cave." Tugark shares what he saw in Angelo's office. maps upon maps of different areas of Kantas, some more detailed than others, and some much more architecturally accurate and specific to familiar buildings in town. He may boast greater strength than intelligence but Tugark still knows when to keep his mouth shut and his eyes open. They took the job, Nowhere, Dorian, Leocanto, and Tugark and went on their way following a very specific set of directions that lead to the intended cave.
"Just outside of the cave entrance was a pike with a rotting head on it. I approached to try and identify the head when I locked eyes with a troll who was stirring a giant pot on a fire within the cave. Then I heard the troll say something in what sounded like Giant." Tugark repeats, roughly what he heard and Fjell translated for him – "Ork flesh! Ork flesh! Lads! Lads! Lads!". "Well there were three of them, and it was a bit tough but Leocanto's unique skills turned the tide in our favour with is lute and honeyed tongue. Along with lots of fire, and my great axe." Tugark describes the Troll's lair; a large pot cooking on the firepit smelled fantastic, though it was discovered, the head belonged to a body which was being prepared for a Troll charcuterie, and Tugark assumed some of that poor half-elf was in the cooking pot.
Tugark continues to recount the details of their journey further into the cave, down into caverns and deep, dark pools. How his experience as a sailor meant he was able to quite adept with rope for their spelunking adventure. As they ventured further down they were attacked by a group of giant worms, with tentacles and beaks. Fjell could see that Tugark was disturbed by the vision of those beasts in his recounting. "I've never seen a man turn to a cloud before. I thought Nowhere had died when he exploded into a pink mist, killed in some terrible manner, but then it started to move and he reformed away from the beasts!"
"We cleaved our way through them and continued down. We came to a cavern with a faint light source, some crystals that seemed to glow faintly from within. Not a moment after we broke a sample off the ground below us was disturbed as a giant beetle-like creature arose. Locking eyes with it for even a moment, each of us seems to have been thrown off our guard as we lashed out uncontrollably for a moment. After we brought the hulking beast down more seemed to arrive, even more ferocious than the last. This is where we ran away. Without shame. We had achieved our goals, and only needed to return to deliver the sample to Angelo, so we left with great haste." Tugark explains that the sample they returned was not what Angelo was hoping for, and while he is unclear of what Angelo's intentions are at this point, he was happy to continue to work with Angelo for the time being.
"While the creatures we crossed paths with were certainly disturbing, the most unsettling thing about this whole day was later that evening when we stopped by a rather raucous event in a nearby barn. Hoping to enjoy a drink, we found a terrible display - a barn full of drunk humans being riled up by one, "porky pie" who was recounting lies about the Twilight Battle, that you and I, and other non-humans had nothing to do with the defeat of the twilight. This porky pie was telling them that it was only humans that were the heroes, that gave their lives, slain the enemy."
"Be careful my friend, perhaps this is place is not so safe or friendly after all."
