You get back to the Hearth and Road Inn under the cover of darkness. On the way you find Chirper petting some of the birds you freed. He comes to the inn with you after having made sure they are fine and going to rest for the night.
At the inn Pervinca and some of the other villagers have gathered after having seen the large flock of birds flying over New Hillborrow. They all seem relieved and in a good mood, they thank you for your help and gladly offer food and lodging for the night.
Chirper seems also relieved, but still sad. He insistently pushes his money pouch into your hands until you accept it. You find 20GP each in it. He also says "[makes Goose Hiss sound] and [makes Swan Cry sound] still missing. No gold. Where are they?"

We followed the smell of Goose to the waterfall but it ended there and there was no sign of them.... only the birds and the gnome playing music.... that strange hypnotic music. But he vanished too. Tell me, have seen anything like this here before?

We sing to them and [makes al sorts of bird noises] go through when days are short and sun is low. We sing and snake sleeps. You think they crossed the threshold?"
Answering to Greebo. "never". Pervinca is also quite shocked at the mention of an incorporeal gnome. Once you describe him to her, she tells you the story of Callen Fiddlefen misgivings and recent disappearance.
Chirper is willing to come with you to the monoliths, if you promise to find Goose Hiss and Swan Cry.

"Yes, DANGER Y'ALL. Myself I am makin' sure this young lady gets back to wherever she should be," she keeps a firm hold of Idari's shoulder, "don't think I didn't know you were lyin' earlier, missy, this is provin' a tad more dangerous than I thought and we are goin' BACK, right now."
She looks at Chirper and the rest of the party.
"I'm sorry, I don't know that I can be of any more help right now. I wish you all the best of luck and may the Forest Father be with you."
